3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Finally worked my way through the yellow tape, $465 shipped is what they are asking. This is compared to $344 shipped for the 3.0 Depos w/ projectors. I have sent an email asking if this includes the corner indicators as well, since they are sold as a set (without the projectors) on their website. I'll let you guys know what they say.
Do I really want to pay an additional $121 to be the gen 3.5 guinea pig? How big of a deal is it to cut down the bumper for the 3.0 grill / headlights with the 3.5 bumper?
wtf? they should be the SAME price. both are made on a by-order basis I thought...

unless they have to get the 3.5 lights from elsewhere i cant see a reason why they are more...or at least that much. its a good deal if you dont have time to retrofit yourself. the big advantage in a self done retro is that you can choose REALLY good projectors to use. these offered are pretty good but nothing compared to the TSX, S2K, ect.
changing to the gen3 lihts may be a bigger visual change then ya think...looks wise. but it would be pretty easy to do...and sk8ersublime actually did it without trimming his gen3 bumper.

Yeah from what I have seen the 3.5 Depos are more expensive than the 3.0s in most cases but there may be some places where that is not the case. They sent me another email letting me know that they do not come with the turn signal indicators but that they do come with the clear corners. They also said that without Halo's it'd be $35 off (looks like this discount is growing?), so $430 total for me.
I understand that the projectors in these are not as expensive as those you'd find in an Acura ect, however, how is their performance sub-par compared to those? Thanks for the help guys.

Good work there! Did Depo give you a apart # for them? I would hope they would post them on their site for easy order and a picture of the product. I would say they are jacking the price because people want them. Could you please post the email or link that you have been using to contact them?

No product number or website listing yet. I've sent them another email trying to get them to come down on the price a bit.
Still wondering why BigBird said that these projectors w/ HID bulbs do not compare to TSX, S2K, ect.
I did get them to tell me that they use h7 Satuga Projectors in the gen 3 headlights. I looked the projectors up and they aren't top shelf like the tsx or s2k but I think that the ppl here with these projectors in the gen 3 headlights are happy with the output. Did you happen to ask about using a shroud around the projector for a cleaner appearance?
I still can't believe that you got them moving on this!!! If this works out you will be the TN Hero of the year!

I did not specifically ask about a shroud but I imagine they would have to use one of sorts if they are not using halos. If I do decide to order at their price I will try to push for a finished product with pictures before I send them $400 for them.
the reason why their light quality still won't be as good as acura/lexus projectors, etc. is because of the design of the acutal projectors as well as the bulbs.
True hid projectors and bulbs are d2s and d2r. their shape and design is different than, say, an H7 bulb or a 9006 bulb. Even though there are projectors for those sizes, they are originally designed as halogen projectors and their dispersal and cut off is not quite the same.
But seeing cruisin's depos in real life- their cut offs and color are more than adequate for what you pay. you can barely tell that they aren't hid projectors

Thanks for your input.
Hopefully I can get Depo Auto Lights to give us a better price and have a finished product to show us before ordering.

^ yup...so they say that their projectors are pretty much designed to use a number of different bulbs with a bulb adaptor, including "h7/d2s/h4, etc."
that pretty much tells you the story right there since all those bulbs are differently shaped as well as different sizes. The projectors were designed to work for all of them, which means tha it's a "jack of all trades" design, but conversely, it will then be "master of none"
and as such...inferior to a d2s/r hid projector matched with a d2s/r bulb.
But again....I think that for what you get, the quality is great. The price... bit pricey...but a great option for the people who don't want to tackle a retrofit themselves

the quality i cant comment on...they work great for me. but H7s are common in more cars then the H1s, or at least are better. which is why i choose them....celica, the old Q30(iirc), mazda millenia are a few.
