3rd Generation Whats wrong with my 1993 v6 auto tranny?

Well there are a number of odd things going on with my transmission. First would be when you take off from a light, unless your using over 50% throttle it seems to start in 2nd then go back to first after 2000 rpms or so. Next is when I drive around town and I'm going between 20 and 45 or so with overdrive engaged, the overdrive light flashes about once a second. When I switch overdrive off, the light comes on as usual with no blinking. It also hates to kick down from a lower gear to accelerate and shifts very harshly. The last thing (and this only happened once) is from a wot kickdown to 2nd from 3rd the tranny made a grinding sound almost identical to if you were to try to start the car while running. Basically a Sharp harsh grinding noise for about half a second

sounds like you have a solenoid issue, but for a quick fix for some of the problems you can try to adjust the kick down cable it is the cable from the tb to the trans, just tighten that up a little too much and your going to notice more harsh engagements. the flashing o/d light means it detects an error and there is a way to retrieve the codes (search for it on here) and you can see why exactly it is doing this.

I couldn't find how to pull the codes anywhere, but I found a diagram of the sensors and upon a visual inspection, the speed sensor in the transmission wasn't hooked up. As soon as I plugged it in in was fixed. Now this weekend ill be doing a fluid flush to help with hard shifts. Do you only drain the pan, or is there a method to get all of the fluid out,

For the 1996 4 cylinder Camry, I wrote a DIY for a transmission fluid change at the link below. I am not sure if the V6 is the same as the I4 though.

DIY: 5S-FE Transmission Fluid & Strainer Replacement Procedure
