3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
With all the threads about suspension questions, I figure I ask some of my own. I have a 95 camry and would like to upgrade my stock rear sway bar. I looked at TRD, ebay, and whiteline, but they all had sway bars for gen 4s. ALSO, how do I know if my struts and shocks are still good? I tried the bounce test, and my car bounces back but it then goes side to side after that. FYI, I have 163k on my car and I dont think any of that has been replaced.
yep the gen 4 camry and the gen 1 solara rear sway bars do fit the gen 3. In fact, I have the TRD rear sway bar on my gen 3 right now lol. Good luck trying to find one and if you do get one, you won't regret it.
They do.
But, there is little effect with a front Sway Bar, mainly for cosmetic purposes.
The rear is what you want. I have a whiteline RSB on the rear, It pretty much fit right in.

^really? I just reused my gen 3 bracket and the bushings fit fine
The gen 3 bracket is larger than the gen 4. The gen 3 may appear to fit, but you will notice that it applies almost no pressure, if any, on the bushing. The bracket is supposed to squeeze the poly bushing tight.
I know I've seen threads on here about this and a pic of both brackets together, along with personally comparing them when I got mine. Both brackets have the same bolt hole, same tab, same width, same depth, but different heights. The gen 3 is taller.

VTEC It's like waiting for really bad sex.
I read on the forums that the guy on solaraguy.com doesn't have anymore. But in the meantime, whats the diameter of the TRD RSB? And whats the diameter of the stock. Whiteline has 18mm but I'm not sure if Toyota Camry MC-SX-VCV10 92-97 corresponds to my car or not. Also, on the page that lists my car, it says Camber adj bolt kit-17mm, and Camber adj bolt kit-15mm. Would I need to get these?

yup i remember installing a trd rsb on drummer93's 93lxe 4cyl back in the camryman era - we had to fabricate a spacer to go between the body and the bushing. just happened to have some scrap metal that we could cut and bend and made a spacer for it. that way we didn't have to buy the new brackets. but that was it - the rest was plug n play. hardest part was feeding the stupid thing up through the exhaust and fuel tank straps. i think we ended up holding up the gas tank with a milk crate and some wood and then undoing the straps.
the trd rsb IS adjustable - 2 positions. in fact i'm probably going to adjust mine to the harder setting (furthest from the end of the bar) because i cannot get oversteer with this car - even when i brake in the middle of a turn. of course some people would say that a complete lack of oversteer is a good thing... but i'm not most people.
i don't think trd ever made a front sway bar for our cars, but whiteline does, or did. don't confuse the front strut tower brace that trd DID make for us. completely different purpose.

as for all the confusing chassis codes from whiteline... they are combining all the codes into one big mess:
SXV10 (gen3 4cyl)
VZV10 (92-93 gen3 w/ 3vzfe)
MCV10 (94-96 with 1mzfe)
The underpinnings of the gen3 (and gen4 for that matter) are virtually identical, so they can produce one bar for all of them. the 97 may be a typo, unless the australian gen3 bled into model year 1997. can anyone from down under provide info on the model year business?

My whiteline feels like a cross between the two settings in comparison to the TRD.
& also, yes the whiteline is not adjustable.
