3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm looking to purchase the factory spoiler for the 97-01 Camry. I saw this one on eBay and it seems to be the best price for a painted spoiler. One thing I'm worried about is that in the description, it says "ABS blow molded." Does that mean this is a replica of the OEM one? Anyone have experiences regarding the quality and paint job of these spoilers? Here's the link for more information:
Also, how hard is it to install? One person mentioned that you need to drill a total of 7 holes in the trunk. Should I get this installed professionally or can I do this myself?
i think its a replica..hence molded. but if you decide to get it im sure you could do it!..just need another pair of hands with you to make it easier. possibly you could get away with 6 i think. 2 on each side plus 1 on each side for the wires i think..comes with instructions too so youd be good. just start off with small holes. so you could always go bigger! GL!
Hmm, but I'm not sure what tools would be good. I have drill bits of different sizes but I'm concerned about stripping the paint off the trunk and if I would need certain ones for drilling into metal. And how noticeable would it be to have a freshly painted spoiler mounted on paint that's 9 years old? My plastic bumpers and mirrors are fading but I wonder how the spoiler would compare with the trunk.
^^Thanks, I would have gotten that one but it's the wrong color code. I looked into getting one painted and it would cost more than the spoiler itself, anywhere from $100-$200. It would also cost more to paint a painted spoiler.
"OEM Style" is an aftermarket part that takes the style of the OEM part. It's sorta tricky because when you search for blah blah blah oem, these ones will come up too. Kinda like putting "not new" in the title, so when you search for "new," all of those come up.
Although, I'm not sure why everybody bashes aftermarket parts. I bought new headlights, corner lights, grille, and bumper. All aftermarket, and the quality is not that bad. I haven't actually put the bumper on yet... so maybe I'll take that back if it doesn't fit right.

I never really liked the style of the TRD lip spoiler. I think lip spoilers look good on some cars, but I wouldn't get one for my Camry. I was hoping that at least one member on here had some experience with an aftermarket "OEM style" spoiler but I guess it's up to me to be the guinea pig
If the price is right, I may decide to get one in the future. BTW, do you guys think it would complete the look of my car, or does everything look all right at this point?

I think you've got a great looking car, and the OEM would be a nice touch to it! And I've been contemplating those ebay spoliers too for my car, so I'll be interested to see how it turns out for you.

Thanks, I'll let you know what happens. I'll probably buy from SwiftCam if it's the right color.
