3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So, I bought a weapon-R secret weapon intake and was going to install it to replace my stock air box, intake tub, etc.. on my 95 Camry Coupe, 5-speed. I was planning on attaching the ram air kit to the intake head and routing it to the stock scoop behind the bumper for cold air intake.
I don't race, but would appreciate the extra umph in my day to day driving, but I was wondering of the risk to engine wear in the long run.
I have received conflicting reports of whether or not it is worth it...thanks for your advice,
Steve

For naturally aspirated purposes, you likely will not get much more power out of anything other than the stock intake system, however, if you are looking for an aggressive intake sound you like will likely find that with the Weapon R setup.
5SFE, actually already bought it without foreseeing what I would get myself into in order to get the power gains I am looking for...I didn't want to do a full tune up just to make the weapon-r work like I want it...oh well

^ the V6 didnt have a manual option from the factory between 94 and 96.^
you should absolutly install it...it will sound awesome.
And what about engine stability over time? I don't believe I have an electronically controlled fuel injector so that more fuel will be added based on the increase in air intake, right? Also, since my exhaust system is stock I would need to upgrade that as well since more air coming in means more air needing to go out, correct?

the motor will be fine. the reuseable filter does allow some larger material into the motor but that just means you have to clean the filter more often and clean out the throttle body and liek more often...but not much more.

Can I use the ram air kit to connect the filter head to my oem scoop behind the bumper for a cold air setup?

it would be tough to use any of your stock parts with the weapon R. but what you could do is preserve the stock airbox in place, cut out space for the weapon R and filter to fit inside and then go with that(ASG14 has done it). other then that either forget about CAI or just use flexpipe. the CAI isnt that big a deal in any case. its more for piece of mind, it really has no performance benefits on an otherwise stock motor.
when i had my weapon R i had the air filter on the otherway around....so i think u miiiight have put it on backwards...but if it works, it works
I know, but then I had some fitting issues with the metal tube on that opposite side so I went this way. I was out of time and it was starting to rain and I don;t have a garage. Essentially it won't matter in the end which way it is installed since the whole head is a filter. Perhaps I will have less build up of materials over time...hmmm meh
