4th Generation Floor Pan Question

Hey Guys,

So I'm in the process of sound deadening the car along with foaming the A, B, C pillars and frame rails and have a question. In removing all of the stock sound deadening material, I've uncovered a couple of holes in the floor which was previously covered by the stock sound deadening material. I don't see a reason to leave the holes as is since they really dont have a purpose. I would like to weld them shut. Is this a good idea or do they really serve an unknown purpose? Thanks guys.

They probably serve as drainage and some air flow. The carpet and stuff can get pretty soggy during the winter, and that get get pretty nasty.

I can't figure out what they are access holes to. The only thing thats under the holes is the uni-body frame. If I didnt pull apart the stock sound deadening material I would of never noticed them. This is one place where I can see it rusting however if the holes are not filed since there was evidence of rust starting. Once the moisture gets under the stock sound deadening material it gets trapped there. Don't know why toyota designed the floor panel like this...

I have them in my aus built camry only they are covered by rubber plugs. I've always assumed they were either for drainage (and I've used them as such when the floor flooded) or as access holes for tools/whatever at the factory.

Close em up. My 91 Corolla had sim. yet like V6CamryDriver says they were plugged w/rubber plugs. Most places will not certify a vehicle w/holes in floor, entry point for carbon monoxide, snakes & swarms of locusts.

OK just kidding about the snakes & locusts.

I say close them. I don't see any point to keeping them as they were covered by the old sound deadener anyway.

ASG14 re-did his sound deadening material... he may have a different opinion.
