Fuel Pump Problems

OK, so my beloved Camry (which now belongs to my daughter), has a fuel pump on the fritz... So I pop the rear seat, and the access cover, and ta-da, there it is... So I pop the plug, and go to turn the line thing that's coming off the top of the fuel pump - NO GO!!! SO I figure, fine, I'll soak it with PB Blaster over night, and it'll come right off... NO GO... So I soak it again overnight, and come out the next day and NO GO... I bought some flare wrenches and still NO GO...

Then a friend comes over and he suggests that I take my handy-dandy torch and heat it up... I say, "Let me and my daughter go to the next zip code, and YOU heat it and we'll wave when you fly by..."

OK, by now, most of you know that I'm a girl who has NO idea what the hell I'm doing, but I changed the fuel pump on my S10, and it wasn't hard at all...

Either an 800 lb gorilla put this stupid thing on, or it's been on the car since 1996, but either way I can't get it off...

I said all that to say that if I take some tin snips and cut the dumb thing, how hard is it to change the fuel lines? Also, can you guys suggest an other way to get this belligerent thing off? Any other way to free a rusted bolt??

EDIT** 1996 Camry 5SFE Auto

OK, so I tried, and tried, and I turned and I turned, but the flipping thing WILL NOT budge... I offered to take it out to dinner, but it isn't interested... How difficult is it to change the fuel lines coming off the top of it?

I used an adjustable wrench on to turn the nut and used a footlong cheater bar at the end of the wrench and it broke the nut loose

DO NOT CUT IT! Gonna be harder to repalce the line itself.......trust me. It took me like 1 hour to get the fucker off.

I used 2 damn vise grips. Granted, it ended up stripping the things a little, but it was the only way I could do it.....

Or drive it to a mechanic and just pay liek $20 or something to have them loosen it.

Thanks guys... Stupid question... Does the nut on the end of the metal fuel line turn clock-wise, or counter-clockwise?? I know "righty-tighty, lefty-loosey, but I can't get this damned thing to budge in either direction...

I can hear a constant buzzing in the cabin of the car. Is the fuel pump a relatively easy swap out? According to above they're under the rear seat below a cover, is there anything that can be done to prolong their life or just swap it out? although i'm going to have a better listen, my buzzing sounds like its coming from under the front seats but I could be mistaken Was about to go to pick-a-part to scavange some parts, but i'll wait n see here first so I can grab another fuel pump if needed....thanks for help.

Actually, it IS a relatively easy swap... Once you get it off, (which I seem to be having technical difficulty with) the whole thing just pulls out of the gas tank... Be careful that you don't damage the float that's attached to the bottom of the assembly... From there, it's just a simple swap... You can buy the fuel pump ITSELF, which fits at the bottom of the assembly, or you can buy the WHOLE assembly...

Both are a matter of money... $400 (whole thing), or $115 (pump alone)...

That's one of those things that you DO NOT want to get from the pick-a-part yard...

I might have to risk it cos I don't have de moolah to fork out for a new one. I'm pretty sure this constant buzzing in my cabin is abnormal.

i changed the fuel pump on my 93 4cyl a month or two ago,

it was relatively easy with the proper tool, i have the craftman 14mm flare wrench, then another 19mm wrench at the end of the 14mm flare wrench as an extension, and another wrench to hold the other nut,
with a little effort, it came loose. then there was like 10 or 12 phillips screw for the cover. i was able to do a complete swap in 15 minutes, and i got the fuel pump from another camry, works fine, i figure if the pump fails again, i change it again and my original fuel pump lasts me nearly 300k miles.

See, mine is isn't a 14mm... It's bigger than that... I can get a 3/4 SAE on it, what is that 19mm or so??

Also, I know it's a stupid question, but which way does the nut turn?? Clockwise or Counter clockwise??

Why do you think the fuel pump is bad?
