trying to figure out exhaust...need input on idea

sup guys

so ive been tryign to figure out my exhaust for a while now. first a little situational background. where im currently living i cant afford to have a loud car period. the exhaust is currently stock with exception of the "old" style OBX headers and y-pipe and a generic OEM style muffler. its not loud but yall have herd it in the one video i have.

with the SC i need better flow but cant do a loud exhaust so heres my idea. taking a page from camricer's mod list im considering putting in a cutout. he did a pretty good job. i think i remember seeing a solara owner do it but couldnt track any thing down.

my idea sounds good to me because it will be like the setups that the V6 swapped MR2 guys have to do. ive seen how even on a stock V6 the lack of a long exhaust frees up alot of power for them. so not only will i be gaining quite a bit more power by just by-passing the exhaust components and sheer legnth of the camry's exhaust...but ill likely save money doing so. have cake and eat it too!

this is where i need the help. if i do this i realize its gonna be REALLY loud which im not a huge fan of. so my options that im tossing around in my head are to A. install a cutout just before the cat and run loud but unrestricted...or B. install a highflow cat(HAVE to replace the bad OEM on on there now) and install a cut out just past that which would quiet it down a little...i think. what do yall think???

ive considered adding a small legnth if i dump before the cat and adding a resonator or some kind of small muffler but im not sure it would even fit.

any other suggestions for how to do this would be great too.

BTW im not planning on side exhaust or anything like that. just a GOOD electric cutout, small legnth of pipe and dumped under the car.

i like where your head is and thats a really cool idea that ill add to my list. but i think if i can work it id rather stick with the cut out idea. i like the idea of a restriction free exhaust(if that is really the best thing for my setup) at a fraction of the cost while maintaining my OEMness for both sound and emissions purposes.

yah, I know...was just throwing ideas out there :p

but also...if you want a stock-like exhaust level while also getting the performance that you need, I'll talk to tony again about what model my muffler is exactly. It's a 3" muffler with a baffled design that flows freely up to 350whp.

take a look at the video that adam posted when we were both at the kawartha speedway track and you'll hear how loud it is- my car pretty much sounds like a stock camry now...except all you can hear is the whine and the roar of the intake

but sometimes I really find it too quiet for a car that looks as aggressive as mine does though...people don't even know that I'm behind them when I'm in a parking lot

As far as muffler, piping, and fabrication (incl. catalytics), Vibrant makes stainless parts (it's a Canadian company) that are good quality and not expensive.

There's some really good custom exhaust shops on the east coast. For $600-900 you could get a full stainless system with TIG welds. Try to avoid MIG welding if you do go stainless.

If you buy the parts yourself (incl. joints, gaskets, piping, stud bolts) and take it to a good welder or exhaust shop, it can be done for $150-$200 or about $20 a weld.

Another tip use grade 8 brass or stainless bolts if you can, they will never rust and it makes assembly very easy.
if i have to then thats the route ill end up goin but its the components that quiet the system that im MOST concerned about. as i siad loud is not an option....at least not under 3000rpms.
