starter is becomming a problem?

ok so at the begining of last month i jumped in hit the switch and got the old familar click but no start i had full power so i got a ball pine hammer taped the starter and bam it started i had to do this for about a week before calling my dad in RI to have him tear out the starter in my celica (same p/n)
then after a week of doing this it starts every time and is fine for about a month then this week it takes 3 hits of the ignition for it to start by 3 i mean i go to start it clicks do it again it clicks then it starts

my question is would it be the starter? toyota starters are renound for reliability and the one out of my celica has 150k on it
or could it be some kind if sensor or switch?

thanks mike

Sounds like the common starter solenoid worn contacts problem. Do a search on this forum for "starter contacts" and read up on the problem and it's cures.
