coilover help

sup guys, gotta quick question about my COs. im new to this and needed to know the signs of a blown cartridge. i have had small rubbing issues in the rear since they were installed and just attributed it to the ride height in the rear and adjusting the dampening valve didnt really change anything. it still rides stiff and another member said i would notice a "sinking" or rolling around turns but i dont feel that. what i do feel is excessive travel when hitting large bumps and i hear a fairly loud thud from the drivers side rear.

these are venom5's old coilovers so they have some miles on them but the front cartridges have been replaced i believe already. any advice on what to look for would be great.

lift the rubber boot and see if there's any yellowish brown oily fluid coming out around the seals of the strut cartridge...if so, u need to take them off completely and get them serviced.

if no fluid, undo the perches that holds the spring so the spring is loosened and do a pressure test by pushing down on the strut and see if it still pushes back by itself.
it should be pretty stiff..as in you would have to push with both hands and use your body weight to push it down.

other than that...the coilover needs to be adjusted again during reinstallation

yup defiantly leaking. as far as i remember, you have to replace the entire cartridge, is that correct? with this broken, will it damage anything else? anyone serviced these themselves before? any tips for doing so?

^did venom even tell you about it? if not, get ur money back. how much did you pay for them?

getting it reserviced by the manufacturer = u will get a new strut. that'll cost u at least $100+shipping, but u can email them as ask.

there are places where they service struts and reseal them, but if you choose to do that, i say service all four or a pair at the same time so they have the same specs.

i actually got these from myfreecamry who got them from venom. the front cartridges had already been replaced and they came with replacements for the rear(unless i have that backwards). so i already have the cartridges. i guess ill just have to contact k-sport and just get the directions for replacing them. im glad i kept my old suspension. ill just have to pop that on till i can get them fixed.

it's actually quite hard to take it apart if it's seized. the mechanics of the coilvover is quite simple though. it's not hard to take apart but if anything is seized, it'll have to be done with a machine....and only the manufacturer and some other handful people have

i say, soak it in PB blaster for a while first and then start disassembling

i will Joe, no worries there. even if the engine went poop tomarrow(knock on wood) it would still be cheaper to replace that then get another car. besides...i cant imagine a better car for a daily driver.

whats funny...even with a blown CO the car still handles better then it did with the previous supension
