3rd Generation 93 waggy v6 feels gutless

total noob to the forum but need help

When coming from a stop my car feels like it has zero power. It slowly increases speed until 2000rpm and then takes off and drives great over 20mph. If i shift manually from low - 2 - Drive it feels perfect. I just drained and refilled transmission so i know the fluid level is good. Any ideas?

sticky solenoid, kick down cable, electrical problem????

Thanks

I dunno much about automatic transmissions, but it sounds to me like a worn transmission with slipping clutches. Can't remember how exactly, but manual low/2nd somehow keeps it from slipping.

I believe that's because when you put it into L/2/specified-gear, the torque-converter lockout kicks as soon as the car is rolling...
maybe have your Torque converter checked out?

ive done a number of engine swaps on toyotas but not on a camry yet. I can get a 96 with the 1mz for next to nothing so it would be cheaper for me just to do a swap. more time but i enjoy the project

^ So you DO know you need to swap the dashboard, dashboard mounting pieces, entire SRS system and all wiring, for a 3VZ to 1MZ swap, right?

Oh, if you get an XLE you need to swap the HVAC unit as well. And you'll be goign from R12 to R134a, so you'll need to change all the o-rings and evacuate the system.

Cool

Inside the torque converter there's a stator, and it sounds like the stator overrunning clutch is either not engaging, or its freewheeling.

how does it rev under the 2000rpm mark. slow or freely? freely usually means tranny, slowly usually means engine.

i think it revs slowly under 2000. im going to drive it this afternoon and look closer at that.

as far as the 1mz... that does sound like a total pita. i was hoping you could just change out the engine harness and computer.

would the a541e from a 5sfe bolt up to my current motor? probably have more wiring issues there?

if it is my transmission maybe it would be best to just wait on a deal for the a140e

The 5S tranny on the 3VZ would not do well with the power. You can get checp used trannies all over the place. Like $300.
