Wierd tail/brake light issue

So my 3rd gen has had a brake bad brake light for a while now. The rear running light would come on but when i pressed the brakes, it wouldnt get any brighter (the second beam wouldnt come on). Ive now replaced the bulb and it is having a different problem. with the headlights on, the rear running light will turn on but when the brakes are pressed the whole bulb just goes out. Ive tried 3 different bulbs and i checked the fuses marked "Tail" and "Stop". Help??

Check the loom of wires inside the trunk, by the driver's side trunk hinge. Open up that loom and check for broken or frayed wires. Many times the wires inside that loom fray and break from all the flexing they are exposed to as the trunk is constantly opened and closed over the years. Repair what you find.

Solved the problem...
I cut off the connector and it turns out the ground wire was massively oxidized inside the connector and up to about an inch back. Got a new connector from a junk yard and soldered it on. Problem solved
