3rd Generation Rough Idle & Power Loss

I've noticed that our '93 V6 auto camry is idling a bit rough and noisier.
Also theres a power loss. When cold going up slight incline and it will struggle to accelerate and can hear a rough growl.

The car had head gaskets replaced, water pump, new spark plugs, oil, and normal stuff.

Was having issues with thermostat after 5 sets 1 being genuine toyota and they all have problems opening up. So my mechanic just installed a gutted up thermostat and been running fine since then.

It became noiser and idles a bit rough after maybe 2 months getting it fixed.

No smoke, noticed power steering is leaking a bit and a tad heavy on the steering side. Will get that fixed later.

Any ideas?

Cheers

check the coolant to see if it looks like milk

how many miles does the car have?

why were the head gaskets replaced?

if the thromostat wount open because they arent getting hot enough and if it work when gutted that means there is a restriction in the system.

have you flushed the radiator?
if you had BHG did you use a repair BHG in a bottle kit?
or have you ever use repair coolant leak in a bottle kit?
going to guess all new hoes as well so there arent any old hoses collapsing in on it self.
the hose under the lower intake manifold was replaced too right?

Its been done properly
had BHG cos of a leak and overheated

No milky residue, after the BHG fixed it was taken to another shop to get CO2 tested and no carbon leak.

radiator is professionally cleaned
housing was taken off and water was flowing great.
Checked lower & top hose all good.
Checked the metal pipe on the bottom hose also good.

The hoses were not replaced and was not collapsing when the proper thermostat is in.
The hose under the intake manifold was not replaced. Which hose is that? the one with 2 bolts? small hose?

when was the last time the fuel filter was replaced? where the correct plugs installed?have you checked the timing since the head gasket job? have you inspected the air filter for obstruction? a noiser engine can be a couple of things. one, lifter noise, or engine bearing noise. and two, a leaking exhaust system. i don;t understand why an oem t-stat would not function properly. this makes no sense to me.

everything was checked after the Head gasket job
as I said 2 months later Im having this problem so within that 2 months the car was running fine.

Fuel filter might be a good one to replace as I've never replaced it since I bought it a year ago.

as well as the air filter

It sounds more like a lifter noise not a leaking exhaust noise and not a bearing noise (had this from my other car and I know what it sounds like)

I cant understand either why an OEM T-stat would not function and tried 4 different ones as well 2 different brands one having a lower temp rating.

We've install the right thermostat the right way also my mechanic.
as soon as this is on after driving around the block twice or 3x it will start to overheat as the bottom hose is cold to touch. My mechanic was even using a temp gun reader.

So after mucking around for a few days and after 5 t-stats we've just installed a gutted up thermostat.

Anyone???

power lose is only happening when engine is cold (from cold start)

like its hard to speed up and the engine sounds like its fluctuating/hesitating when you put more petrol depress the pedal more.

4th Generation

About a year ago something similar happened to my 98 Camry; I was commuting from my college back to my hometown every weekend and suddenly I started my car up and it was fine, but as soon as I came to a complete stop it was as if I completely lost all power. I took it to a shop in town and they ran a diagnostic test only to find out there was a vacuum valve in the engine that had slipped, matter of fact there was no price to fix because no damage had literally been done, It's just an idea but it sounds familiar. Fixed it immediately though. I can't recall if there was a smell or anything though I do know it looked as though a bit of moisture was coming out of the exhaust though...
