3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
As many of you guys know, I totaled my gen3.5 and i'm looking for a new Camry. I don't much about the gen4s yet.
I already know traction control was available on LE V6 and XLE V6 models from 98-01. (I don't think it was offered in '97.) I'm wondering how the system operates in terms of braking. I know what it does when the car looses traction during acceleration... but does it do anything when the car is braking? Or is that solely ABS that deals with braking? Thanks.

Basically you're saying TRAC is really only for launch control, right Adam? I'll leave this open for other who'd like to share info too.

Acceleration, so you don;t spin the tires. I raced a 4WD Tacome in deep snow in the Solara and beat him......I just floored it with the SC in 4" of slush, ah haha. TRAC kicked in and the ahole int he Taco couldn't pass me.

intresting... so let's put a car with tracation control in the situation I was in when I wrecked:
I start to slide at 40mph... I apply throttle and traction control limits what the front wheels do as far as transferring power to the ground. I'm able to power through the curve and not smash into a guard rail. Yes?

If the tires can't hook up, nothing will help you. Good tires, a level headed approach and practice are more important than any ABS or traction control system.

as he said above, without traction, no system is going to save you. the car would have performed the exact same way or close to it. the tires and your entering speed are the factors here.
alright i think I got it. thanks for the info guys.
