Gen 4 (1998) power window switch thingy....

Here's the part I'm having a problem with......

Here's a side view......

The way these suckers are held in is that there's a molded shovel-nose piece in the front (as seen on the left of the above pic) then a metal screw-mounted clip thingy at the rear (as seen on the right side).

Now, on the left and right (as you look down at the switch) there are a couple of molded retaining lip-style hooks that keep the side snug as it sits in your armrest. BOTH of those broke on mine. (plastic was brittle) I've lived with it for a year but I want it fixed now. (Thing flops out of the armrest every time you shut the door)

I see part # 74231-AA030-B0 and 74231-AA050-B0 at toyopartszone.com and toyodiy.com Anybody know the difference?? Does it matter??

TIA (Unless somebody has an ingenious idea for fixing my current switch which works fine, just physically flops)

Why not just use a bit of silicone sealant to hold that panel in place? Hell, you could even just crazy glue that thing in place.

If you still have those hooks, you could try super gluing them back on, although I'm pretty sure that wouldn't last too long. The best way to get an exact part number would be to visit your local dealer. Come prepared with your VIN just in case that makes it easier for the parts guy. Although sometimes they can be pretty stupid about things... it usually works out.

By the way, the same thing happened to my driver's side thingy. I actually never knew why it was loose... but now since you've posted this it makes sense.
I think mine broke 'cause I got mad one time and slammed my fist on it.

I'm replacing most of my car's interior with that of a junkyard car, so my problem will be solved.

You COULD also check local salvage yards too if you have lots of time on your hands.

Ya, I did think of salvage yard too, but unlike even a couple years ago, those things are RAVAGED these days!!!

People walking around with shopping carts FULL of different parts. (I'm sure to try & sell no ebay & make $$$ cuz they ain't got no job no mo') Needless to say, that leaves slim pickin's for us regular scavengers.

I have an idea that might work, but might not. If it works, I'll post it.

Already tried prying the metal tab at the rear a little extra, but all that does is cause the whole assembly to "bow" too much and expose gaps along the sides. (grrrr)

Very true about the slim pickins at salvage yards these days. I've been to several in my area... and 95% of the time, whatever hasn't been removed or broken off has been destroyed or stained in the process (interiors and such). Or rusted from constant exposure to rain.

I could send you my passenger side window/lock control panel thing. But I've got a tan/beige interior, not gray. So... offer is on the table.
