3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
While doing my valve cover gasket on my 97 Camry, i realized the cams are really easy to change. I was wondering if i can get performance cams for it & if so from where?
I know they have performance cams for 5sfe mr2's, will these work also?
And what kind of tune if needed?

"The motor currently outputs 147 STD rwhp/153 STD rwtq as compared to the @105 HP and @125 tq of a stock n/a MR2. This was accomplished with larger cams (Webcams 294 grind intake, stock exhaust). The head was also ported and polished and had a 5 angle valve job. There is a custom built 4-2-1 stepped tube race header exiting through a 2.5" straight pipe. A few other performance mods include a Crane performace coil, an Apexi intake, and Jacobs spark plug wires. This is all being controlled by an Accel DFI gen 7 stand alone engine management system."
you need more than just a cam for what you were reading.......

Yeah they only performance cams are the Webcams.com regrinds ones. you send your OEM camshafts and wait until they regrind and reweld them with a higher lobe longer duration

I don't. Cams push the power band specifically in this motor (MrT 763 Webcams) higher. In order to get the full use of the cams, higher rpms must be reached. Pointless i think not. A lot more to that 5sfe than just cams.
What is the 5sfe tuned on to actually rev up to 7700 rpm? i wanna know more.
It actually involves extensive work opening up your Ecu and replacing the stock timing crystal of 16Mhz and soldering in a higher Mhz Crystal. The individual who Over clocked there Ecu is also running on SMt6 for extra tuning.

alright then let me spell it out for you. FE<GE. the economy heads arent made for high reving. thats why none of them have redlines higher then 6500rpms. like i said before and this is my opinion making a 5s rev to where a 3sge revs is pointless to me. if you want the torque of a 5s and the ability to rev high do a 5sge because you atleast get the better head.
FE<GE Thats a know fact. What im saying is also fact. Its a bit easier and maybe even cheaper to throw cams in a 5sfe, rather than tear down your motor find a 3s head drill a 5s block for coolant passages then throw it back in...... But what the hell do i know. OP Webcams is what your looking for.
