3vz pistons into 1mz block?

3vz pistons into 1mz block...will they fit and work?

1mz piston specs:

Compression Ratio: 10.5:1
Standard Diameter: 87.50 mm
1st Group: 1.20 mm
2nd Group: 1.20 mm
Oil Ring: 3.00 mm

3vz piston specs:

Compression Ratio: 9.6:1
Standard Diameter: 87.50 mm
1st Group: 1.50 mm
2nd Group: 1.50 mm
Oil Ring: 4.00 mm

i'm rebuilding my motor and i've already started to port and polish my heads intake and plenum. i might got forced induction so dropping the CR would be good.

i'm not completely set in my decision for boosting but i want to have an option.

discuss

It looks like the 3vz pistons maybe 1.6mm larger than the 1mz so there might be some clearance issue between the piston skirt and counterweight. but they are are the same size and the 3vz just has larger sized rings your next problem is valve reliefs ( i think that what they are called ) on top of the pistons, if the valves on teh 3vz and 1mz are the same diameter there shouldn't be a problem. Well come to hink of it there has been a successful 3mzfe (milt) so im guessing you dont have to worry about that. So im coming to a conclusion that they can be used, just make sure the pistons are the same size, if not you might, not relly sure might have some clearance issue between counter weight and pistons skirts

Wasn't it a hybrid of 3mz block and 1mz head with TRD S/C, not 3vz and 1mz ?

No because the 3m is a inline 6 cylinder while the 3vz is a V6. the 3m block work in our camrys

IIRC, the hybrid was a 3mz block and 1mz heads. 3mzfe is not inline. its a bigger displacement 1mz(with vvti heads and block ports)...thats pretty much all. this was done to get the 3.3L and avoid any issues with the VVT-i. vz and mz are too different to match up.

He has mistakened with the older Toyotas, such as 5M, 7M, etc...

We should be more specific, 1MZ, 3MZ, 3VZ, etc...

What are the reasons to run 3VZ pistons? They are also cast and would not be worthwhile to swap over IMO... Besides the compression ratio drop, it's not worth the effort if the reason to drop CR is to go boost (which in turn, just to be limited due to cast pistons_.

dude, if your going to boost, why not just order a set of forged pistons? they actually arent that bad in price imo...around 800 bucks.

i wouldn't trust oem internals to last too long on anything over like 5 psi.

stock 1mz internals work fine over 5psi. its at 8ish or higher that people worry a little. but thats mainly with the rings and connecting rods.

I hear wat your saying and i understand so i'll just rebuild and have the wagon running. find another 1mz or 3mz and start working on it for usable power.
