serious problems with no clue

so i started my car( 97 camry 2.2), the motor seemed to be running normal but i had a clunking/rattling noise in the front right side of the motor not constant but kept hearing didnt get louder when raising the rpms. the noise sounded to be coming from something incased in metal. i was driving with the noise still going on and then all the sudden the needle buried on my temp gauge and my car stalled and wont start it will crank no start. i noticed clear fluid coming out under car in driveway(had it towed home) any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated thanks jim

How's the oil level?

The clear fluid could either be water from the A/C, or coolant. Did you have the A/C on? ...if it's coolant, and the car doesn't start, I might think the h-word...

From what I've read, it may or it may not. I could be way wrong.

But I'm really curious what the oil level is at? The metal clunking noise could have been that.

If the car overheated, and there is no coolant in the radiator, the car will not start. Check the radiator for coolant level.

+1 Gotta agree with ghost111 here. Does the engine crank at normal speed or very fast? Should be easy to tell the difference. Fast cranking could mean the timing belt broke. The timing belt drives the water pump on the 5S-FE. The water pump probably seized and broke your belt. Have you noticed any coolant leaks prior to this happening? How many miles on it?

I agree with ghost111, and 96paseo

Your water pump seized and the Timing belt broke! Same thing happened on my daughters 99...IIRC it cost her about $350+towing

Thank god for non-interference engines.

Get better and let us know how it goes. Without taking too much apart, there is an easy way to tell if the timing belt broke. Remove the two bolts at the top of the upper timing cover. Spread the cover open a little and shine a light down in. You will be looking directly at the water pump pulley and camshaft pulley. If it looks like the belt is still on the pulleys, have someone crank the engine while you watch the belt. Good luck.

^ Do what he said. But fill your radiator up with water first. And put some in the reservoir tank if it's empty.
