distrubutor seal leak

Here is my car info.
1996 Toyota Camry LE I4 2.2L
has 159k miles
had replaced o-ring seal distributor
had replaced valve cover gasket

Now, I discover the oil leak is inside the distributor cover. When i open the distributor 's cover, I saw oil leaks inside the distributor cover. It is not housing seal (prevent dust get inside the distributor's cover).. there is another seal inside the cover..

my question is... do you guys know Toyota's dealer does carry that seal? the seal looks small but similar camshaft seal

I really don't want to buy an entire distrubutor assembly... my distrubutor works Ok, but the seal get old and start to leak.. the seal is inside behind the cap button.

CAREFULLY remove the bad seal and travel to a bearing store, they should be able to pull numbers off it and hook you up. You should probably bring the distributor too, so they can measure if the seal is of no help.

Take a look at http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_199....html?hl=19100 -- do one of those seals look similar to what you're looking for?

the O-ring seal and dust proof seal are not what I am looking. the link above only show 0-ring and dust proof seal.

inside the housing distributor has 1 more seal. i need that seal is inside the housing distributor.

the link above doesn't show the seal inside housing distributor. i don't know if Toyota dealer sell those? I don't want to buy another distributor assembly..

can someone help me get the seal inside the housing distributor? the seal inside housing distributor is leaking not O-ring seal.

i already replaced O-ring seal that I got from Toyota's dealer.

That link shows the parts that Toyota sells. If you want to rebuild the distributor housing, you're going to have to do some legwork and find and/or hack something together that's kind-of sort-of close. Good luck with that.

Might want to find a pick-a-part junkyard who'll sell you a distributor...might be a lot less hassle to just change out the housing.

I hear Toyota Camry 92 I4 the part fit for 96 Toyota Le I4. Will other year Toyota i4 fit for 96 distributor Camry Le I4? I want to ask this question before I head to Junkyard.

I'll search junkyard to see if they have 96 distributor....and I can save $$$...

Thank you with your suggestions!

I'm not 100% sure -- seems like the 1996 model year changed some stuff around in the distributor when they made things OBD-II compliant, and then when the Gen4 came out in 1997, the distributor completely disappeared. Unless you're feeling lucky, stick to the '96 model year.

No, this is a brick and mortar store with a helpful guy at a counter who has access to a mile thick stack of catalogs deal. Look in yellow pages under industrial supply.

Did you find any solution your Distributor shaft seal leaking issue? I pulled out my distributor and similar problem as yours. I did some research and found this distributor seal kit online from a company called KBOX in Canada.
Here is the link http://kbox.ca/catalog/product_info....roducts_id/235 . I have successfully rebuilt my starter and can tackle this too [God willing ha ha..:-)]...please post your update

peshwa,

I did look through the website, but I decided not go that round to order repair distributor KIT.

You can remove everything inside the distributor cover, but I can't figure how you remove the distributor shaft (to get access the seal that cause the distributor leaks).

Here is my solution... Instead, I order the distributor repair Kit from the website you mention. I went ahead purchase OEM HOUSING KIT from

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214074 with toyota dealer provided part # to me
OEM HOUSING KIT 19235-74230. I paid $176.45 (unit) and $12.99 for shipping(depend where u live). after I replaced the unit with a new distributor..there is no more oil leaks.

All you get is the housing shaft and gasket distributor (cover dust)and distributor O-ring and the sensor that you plug the wire go into. you have to reuse the button rotor and distributor cover (ouside).

Make sure when you remove the old distributor, I would make a reference mark around the bolts before I dis-assembly.

May be someone can share they experience or DIY repair distributor with the KIT they purchased online....

$24.99 for the KIT is the way to go, but I can't remove the distributor shaft before you can get near the seal (cause oil leaks inside the distributor). If someone know how, please share so other people can save $$$$...w/o paid $176 when you can get 24.99 for a repair KIT.

Thanks a lot for the update. I am summarizing what you did, please correct me if I am wrong:
  1. Buy separate distributor housing with OEM part number 19235-74230 (to obtain the distributor shaft mainly that we can not pull out?)
  2. Buy distributor seal kit online from www.KBOX.ca for all the rubber seals.
  3. Mark the old distributor around properly before pulling it out and apply the same markings to the new housing.
Questions to you:
  1. Do you have a picture of the housing?
  2. Did you have to set your timing after you installed all your new hardware on the engine?
  3. For $90 + shipping I found a NEW distributor for my camry on flee-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Distributor-92-95-TOYOTA-CAMRY-5SFE-COMPLETE-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem335cc970acQQitemZ22060 0037548QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries
  4. Is this NEW distributor any good? Didnt see any warranty on that one though...
Any help is appreciated...

http://www.aeu86.org/index/diy-4age-...156/post=74211

Keep in mind that this is for AE86 and the distributor IS different but I think it looks a lot similar to the Camry distributor. Hope that helps...

My car is 96 Toyota Camry LE
with 160K miles before the distributor leaks.

Thanks for sharing the DIY.
I did not buy distributor seal kit online from www.kbox.ca for all the rubber seals. you are correct I purchased distributor housing with OEM part number 19235-74230 and mark the old distributor around the bold that hold old distributor before pulling it out and and installed new distributor to the same spot old mark reference .

Questions to you:
  1. Do you have a picture of the housing? NO, I do not. I stop by Toyota dealer look at the picture before purchase online.
  2. Did you have to set your timing after you installed all your new hardware on the engine? NO, I didn't set the timing after installed because I make a mark reference on the old distributor before I removed. IMPORTANT...When you removed the old distributor out, look how the shaft pin align(horizontal or vertical). you installed with the new distributor the same way the PIN align with the old distributor.
sorry, I do not have a picture.. If you stop by your Toyota Dealer, they can provide you with a picture before you order online. order online is much cheaper than buy at the dealer.

the website Ebay you posted, it say 92-95 distributor... you think that will fit to your car? Maybe someone can comments on that
