3rd Generation Heater not working help!

The ac/heater knob does not work in my car. It never did since i bought it used. The knob just cranks either way like it's grinding or missing gears. I thought it was disconnected. AC works but temp can't be controlled. I figured to check the heater core, so i opened the hood and manually opened the heater valve. Heat started moving into the cabin! I think the knob controls a servo that opens the valve cause I see a typical servo wire thingy. http://camrystuff.com/manuals/Gen3/ac.pdf Is page 58 what I'm talking about?
So as before, my knob is disconnected and now! maybe the servo is now broken since i manually forced it. I can't seem to close the valve with my hands! Can someone link me to instructions on how to access the ac heater control assembly? Also verfiy if the stuck valve is related to a servomotor assembly, please.

AIR OUTLET SERVOMOTOR

That is for the air outlet selector switch. The switch to choose from def to vent or floor.

The temp control for a gen3 is cable driven. At least mine is. It's kind of stiff and hard to move so I bet someone cranked yours really hard and fast and busted it someplace. I can't find anything to do with the temp control in that manual.

Thanks #2!,
So i think i just have to lube up the cable and re-assemble the climate control unit. It's a tight fitted cable within a hose, gona be hard lubing it.

I would look more towards the flap that opens and closes to let air come in from the heater core. Where ever that is. Make sure that moves freely and has nothing restricting it.
Let me know how and where you fixed it. With how mine feels I think its a matter of time before im in the same situation.

Do you have a manual HVAC or automatic temp control? Sounds like maybe a manual? It's likely your heater knob itself is broken/cracked on the stem and not really engaging the control shaft fully which controls the cables to the heater valve at the firewall and the heater core vent door. Lubing the cables is what you ened to do, but you may need a new knob or a fix for the current one.

Thanks to ASG14 here is his write up to get to the temp controls.

Follow step 1-5 in the following link: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t220377.html

Next, unscrew the 4 corner screws, and the un behind the Temp Knob (The knob just pullks off)

The temp control unit has 4 clips. It will take a little time to figure out what I mean for your 1st time. The 2 clips hold that temp unit to the HVAC unit. It just comes off, which needs to be done before you can take the entire unit out.

Then there is the hard line for the Outside/Inside air. You need to take that off. Then you have it out.

ok thanks again. Followed the instructions, what do I do at the temp control thingy. I'm pointing to it. There's 3 clips on the right side and two cables that run out behind. While I'm here, i'm going to replace Drive bulb on the cluster. Also, how do i change out the climate bulb, the bulb for the 3 knobs. What part is it? Once again, thanks for helping me along.

Is there any screws or look to be any way to disassemble that control unit? Iv never looked at one closely. I bet the part that pulls onto the cable is broke inside of that. Sorry I can't help much more with that.
The replacement lights for the whole back lighting of the HVAC unit is two #74 bulbs. Look on the back of the unit and you will see 2 white plastic bulb housings you can twist half turn and pull out and then pull the bulbs right out of those.

ok so i got the housing top off. it has 4 clips. Now i had access to the gears. Slowly pullled them apart. I found out the gear that connects to metal plate, which holds the cable end in, has been torn off the housing(it's supposed to be screwed onto the housing floor). So i just need a housing now, gona go to the toy parts yard soon. I'm going to have plenty of fun...removing the old housing. The screws are really hard to get to. I'm going to see if they can do the job for me.
