Early Christmas gift.. need a little a/v wiring help please brothas
NOTE: Skip to last paragraph for my real question.. first bit is some ranting for those of you that have systems.
So after doing some research and a lot of searching for deals I picked up 2 12” Alpine Type R subs in a full size ported box last week for $150 with alpine jumpers currently set in a parallel “way” for 2+2ohms each for their dual voice coils. I was just going to buy an amp and hook it all up to my factory AM/FM/Tape single din deck but my girlfriend being as awesome as she is decided to buy me an Alpine CDE-100 from Best Buy for $100 as an early Christmas present which makes wiring that must easier and will makes sound quality a million times better not to mention for the first time in my life I will have a CD player! I just today went and bought a 1 Farad capacitor and a Hifonics Brutus BXi1206D amp with built in crossover both cheap off Craigslist. Tomorrow with any luck my buddy at Best Buy is going to hook me up with all the wiring I need for this setup.
To complete the gift, my baby got her cousin who does car wiring to come out to my house on Saturday and install it all for me. Now the last/only time I trusted anyone with my car and wiring was Best Buy installers when I used to work there to wire up my Viper alarm system. They did a shotty job to say the least: afterwads they gave me the box with a lot of “extra wires”, the paging feature never really worked right, up until the time I took apart my door panel I could not unlock the car from the master control switch.. and when I took it in for work they told me that they needed all the paperwork which I misplaced or they could not do anything for me without charging me per the hour. Anyways even though this cousin of hers is close as kin to me.. I just don’t trust ppl enough with my first car afterwards. Now before he comes over on Saturday, I want to do all the major invasive a.k.a. panel removing wiring so all he has to do is plug it all up and tune it for me.
To get to the skinny my first question of many: I first need to run a wire from the battery terminal to the trunk to power the amp but where is there a spot in the firewall where I can run it through? What is the best way of running it to the back after the firewall?
Thanks!!

Stay clear of yr brake-booster.. i know you're going to have to guesstimate, so be careful with that.
i would drill towards the upper left side of the brake pedal so it'll be out of your way while driving and it'll be easier for you to run the wiring under the panels with the rest of the car's wiring.
as far as wiring goes, plenty people say they're all the same.. but i rock monster-cable, and im pretty sure that an 8 gauge power cable can deliver enough juice to yr amplifier.
Yep! You can run it through the fender and it by passes the fire wall. I need pics to show you where to run it though...

Look under the dash and in the upper left corner is where a lot of wires are going into a rubber bulb. Pull off the front driver side tire and the plastic fender cover and you can see the other side of it. Plus you will see a hole to get into the engine bay. Grab a wire hanger and cut a 12" or longer, straight piece off to poke through the bulb and fish the wire through with that. There is two parts in the bulb you will have to push through. Just like if you imagine pushing that wire through a old kick ball.

that's perfect.. just what i wanted. now that i know where to look im gonna need to pull off my tire, remove the plastic piece and fish... still so many hurdles ahead before i can listen to anything. wish me luck. i will probably take a look under the dash today and see if i can find it and go from there.
now again being stupid.. you dont mean that i have to take the dash panel off do you? just underneath the whole thing by where the dead pedal is?

there's no dash panel that you need to take off.. just fish it through like its been said. the only panel you're taking off is off the the wheel well after you take off the tire. you'll see where a bunch of factory wires get through and it can fit up to an 8 gauge i've heard. mine is 10 gauge and it fit nicely through that hole
Man... was SO easy for me. Mind you, my driver's seat is on the opposite side of the car.
My main wiring harness connects through the firewall on the left side car if you're sitting in the seat. My glovebox is on the left side as well. I fed my 4 gauge cable through the main harness and under the glovebox - easy as that.
Whether you can do it the same way... I'm not sure. Every Camry I've seen here has fed theirs through the wiring harness... I've seen 0 gauge pulled through there with Anthony (phat devil)'s 11k worth of sound
thats good to hear that 4 gauge will fit because thats what i was gonna get. i have wheel locks on my wheels and only an attachment so im gonna have to figure out how to take my wheel off without taking it to a shop first before taking that panel off.
whooopee small steps towards sound!

Yeah 4 guage is easy. It gets a little tight when you try to shove a 00 through with it. Trust me. Deff no need to go drilling through anything. Its a pain to take out the bunch of screws in the fender well, but worth it for the clean install.
so work officially starts tomorrow at 8-9AM. as of now I have everything i need including amp, capacitor, stereo, and subs. most of the wiring except an aux cable and component wires to run from the stereo to the amp were purchased by a friend of mine already with an employee discount. now that everything is virtually set i am ready to go. i also got jackstands, with a jack and a shiny new cross style tire iron to attack the wheel well with to find this infamous firewall hole. the only problem that I see occurring tomorrow is getting this blasted trim off from around the stock stereo. these 2 pictures are provided courtesy of ASG14 from his Gen 3 "D" Bulb replacement DIY. Does anyone know how as in which direction i should move this trim to get it out. the last thing i need is for this thing to break or me mistakenly rip into the vinyl surround it.
edit: also.. how the heck am i supposed to run the component cable from behind the new stereo all the way back to the trunk?.. sigh i also hope that my stock antenna doesnt pose a problem? i still need to upgrade the Big Three too... tomorrow might be a lonnng day

Use a flathead screwdriver to go in from the bottom to pry it out. It comes out and down, more down than out. I got it out the first time by pushing in on the top and pulling down on the bottom.. if that makes sense.
You have to run the wires under the glove box to the door sill then remove the trim pieces by pulling them up.
When this is done you can run the wires under the carpet.
Most of this stuff just pulls off. Pretty sweet if you ask me. You will have to do the same for the back door sill. The rear seat pulls up form the front to give you more room to run the wires under the edge of the seat to the trunk. Also Look at this battery tie down as to how to route the wires. Hope this helps.
