Requested DIY: Distributor O-Ring

I have a strong leak from this area and would like to see a DIY with pics if possible. I searched but couldn't find one. I don't want to mess up my timing and don't feel brave enough to tackle this without a write up to refer to.

looks like we have a common problem. i dont know where i can get a dist. o ring. i didnt see one on rockauto... i guess i could get it from the stealership...

I got one from the stealership. They charged me 9 bucks after tax...

^ WTF? Are you kidding?!?!?! I got one from my dealer a couple months ago and wasn't anywhere near that....

If you have a '96, just unscrew the bolt that holds it to the block. The '96 Dizzy does not need adjusting like the 92-95 does. I found that out, lol. Makes it a lot easier. At least I think it;s a '96 thing and not a Cali vs Fed emisions thing.

Just got a distributor o-ring for my 1993 camry 2.2l from NAPA. The part no. was PA891. Cost was a grand whopping $1.49. The one removed was craked and crusty and was causing quite a leak. Make sure before you remove distributor to mark the position and the orientation of the rotor shaft. I just used a utility knife to make a tiny mark on the body of the dist. and another adjacent one on the head. Also note the position of the flat portion of the shaft after removing the rotor. Taking these steps will assure the timing will not change. BTW make sure u coat the o-ring with a thin layer of clean oil.

"Rotor Shaft"
"Body of Dist."

I wish I knew what these items looked like. Saying those kinds of things doesn't give me any idea if what I'm actually marking is the Rotor Shaft or the Body of the Distributor.

ASG: I did remove that bolt at first since it seemed like I might be able to get through that way, but it didn't want to budge. Maybe there's another bolt on the backside somewhere?
