Strut Bar

I just don't understand, I ordered a cheap strut bar off ebay. My camrys a 92 2.2, but the items desc said it was for 93-96 camrys. Well I've looked at struts and mounts that say their for 92-96's so I assumed they would all be the same bolt pattern. Well of course the bar wouldn't fit, in fact, it wasn't even close. He might have sent me the wrong one, or are the bolt patterns in fact different between 92's and 93's? My only other option now is to try a bit of custom fabrication to make it fit, or does anyone know where I can find a good one that's guaranteed to fit? Or, could I buy a set of 93 camry mounts?

Always so helpful.

Leviathan66610, I'd stay away from *cheap* eBay auto parts of any kind, not that this problem was caused by any quality issue. Contact the seller about returning it, and get one of the better know brands that's sure to fit.

I bet I've been looking at that same strut bar that you bought (for my Gen4). Looked very suspicious to me. Something tells me that if you bought the one that said it was specifically for your year car that it would in fact fit. Now if it actually provided support rather than just a bar across your strut towers.... that's another thing.

I'd say return it, don't tell them that you have a different year camry than they listed it for, and just tell em it doesn't fit.

3rd Generation

^ Id have to agree. I bought mine off there and have had no problems. I wouldnt buy if they have the years mixed up tho. thats usually a good indication they dont know what theyre talking about. Good luck.

Just send it back mate. They're all the same man... I've seen the same whiteline strut bar on a 1992 than what was on a 1996. Obviously different brands, but that's not the point. The point is that if I can fit a whiteline strut bar on a 92 and the same one on a 96, then there shouldn't be any problems.

Thank you so much, that's all I needed 2 know. In fact I just measured the bar up in between the struts and it's not long enough even if the bolt patterns would have matched! Sigh... Guess I gotta c if the seller will take it back.

Agreed, but I still wouldn't buy a part that isnt specified for my year car, even if it should fit it anyways. UNLESS I talked to the seller and had them confirm that it would fit my year car first. That way, if what is happening in this situation happens to me and I want to return it, they can't say "well we didn't list it as being compatible with your car." Because then you're not likely to get your money back.

Try to return it, and if they refuse to take it, file a complaint with eBay. I had to do that once and it worked out quite well. I did get my money back minus half the shipping cost, and I got to keep the item anyways. I also armed myself with photos in case they really put up a fight.

Good luck! And if anyone knows where to buy a good front strut bar, like TRD or Whiteline, for a 00 camry plz PM me!

strut bar responce

whats your vin number? he might have sent you one for the japanese model. if your VIN begins with a 1,2 or 4, it was american built. if starts with a j, then of course japanese built. i had problem when i ordered the rear lateral conrol arms. they sent ones that looked totally different. double check VIN before ordering. factory is best to get parts from. they run your VIN to ensure proper fit. hope this hepls.
