Question Tube/Valve attached to Air Filter Box - ID needed

Hello,

I'm not sure of the correct terminology but I did take a picture of the part. I need to identify the tube that is attached to the air filter box in the middle of the picture. The tube is connected to the air filter box at the "white ring."

What does that tube do and lead to? How does it affect my car if it was not attached?

Thanks in advanced!

Pretty sure that's the air inlet line for the charcoal canister. Should route down to the canister understeath the car back by the fuel tank. If you disconnect, you'll be pulling dirtier air into the charcoal canister. Not sure why you'd want to pull it, 'tho.

Thanks for the info.

I found that it was actually not hooked in. I had my IAC replaced about a month ago because my engine was stalling and idling harshly.

It actually happened again and when I went to check connections around the tube to the IAC, it was not hooked in. I took it back to Toyota and they couldn't get the stalling/Idling issue to come back.

Could this cause a harsh idle (eventually cutting my engine off) if this was not connected?

I have it connected now but wanted to know what damage it could have caused not having it connected.

Bit more dirt in the charcoal canister. Unless you ran like that for years, unlikely to have any effect at all. Older rigs (up to something like 95/96) just had an open-air tube hanging off the charcoal canister for this (of course, the canister was in the engine compartment instead of under the car, but, still, that wasn't the cleanest air in the world).
