Arrow Automatic Overdrive

Hello Fellas,

i have a 93 camry LE... automatic. It has a bad habit of not engaging overdrive until you've been on the road for a while. only on cold starts like early in the morning on the way to work. i think the overdrive doesnt engage until about 4 miles into my commute. i noticed that when i warm it up before i leave, the overdrive kicks in sooner. this is the 2nd trans this camry has had... any thoughts, tips, tricks?

thanks,

bones

This is normal operation. The ECU is programmed not to engage OD until the engine/trans reach a specified temperature to reduce unneeded wear and tear on the transmission.

Can always do a check of the engine coolant temperature sensor and make sure it's still measuring the correct resistance for the temperature.
