used distributor worth 60 bucks

I need you guys opinion on used distributor from junkyard... I spoke with the guy that work at the junkyard, he wants 60 bucks (part) + 7.5% tax for used distributor (96 Toyota Camry).

the outside distributor cover broke, so I just took the distributor without the distributor cover. I asked the guy to give me a discount 3-4 bucks...without the distributor's cover..he says NO.

inside the housing looks without oil leaks...since this is an used part...

I don't know when the inside housing distributor will leak again?

What do you guy thinks? It's good buy or bad buy? He holds the part 4 me, but I need to bring the $$$$ tomorrow to pay the part...

Call around to auto parts stores in your area for the price on a rebuilt one. I would be willing to bet you can get a rebuilt one for around $125. At least that way you will have a warranty. I guess it also depends on how long you intend to keep the car. It's your decision to make.

I plan to keep the car 2-4 years. Is there a rebuid KIT from dealer that you can buy to fix oil leaks inside housing distributor?

who can do rebuit distributor ? can any auto shop do rebuit distributor?

rebuit distributor, do they replace anything (gasket, O-ring, button, everything that is inside the distributor housing)?

Mike, thanks for you input...I'll check around tomorrow...and I might shop around other junkyard...and check rebuilt shop for distributor?

what kind of shop that can do rebuilt distributor?

keep your comments coming..

if the distributor is working, then it is worth $60,
i've bad experience with ebay new $150 aftermarket distributor, the built quality is never like oem genunine part, failed with in 6 month, then i shipped back for replacement because they have lifetime warranty, but then 2nd one failed also within 6 month, the hassle of not able to drive the car not worth the trouble.

the rotor and cap (cover) can be replaced very cheap, and you can get the new distributor seal from stealership like a couple buck if it leak oil.

I bought a used distributor for my MR2 when the housing cracked. It was $60.00. I bought it over a year ago. Works fine. I did buy it from a reputable individual.
The next closest price was $120.00 on Ebay.

Crazy Rays boneyards (Maryland) charge $22 for a distributor, with a $2 core charge. As-is, no returns.

PickYourPart in California charges $35, but has half-price weekends about once a month. I think that they allow returns, although I've never needed that.

Camrys are very plentiful in the boneyards, so it's not like this is a hard-to-find part.
