leaking coolant bad water pump?

i been noticing that ive been loseing coolant. yesterday coolant started to come out where the waterpump would be. i filled up reservoir and drove home stopping once to check level. no change. i get home and still no change. ride home was about 30 min. never lost heat in car and temp gauge stayed same. but the lower rad. hose never got hot, so this means the thermostat didnt open. do you think its a bad water pump? rad. and therm. were changed 2 months ago. 96 camry 2.2l 126000 miles thanks

Picture of the leaking area would tell us a lot.

OEM or aftermarket thermostat? Did you replace the thermostat gasket when you changed out the thermo?

The water pump must still be working fairly well, otherwise you'd have no heat (the pressure from the WP is what circulates the water through the heater core), and probably would also be overheating. Doesn't mean that it isn't on the way out -- you'll get coolant out of the weep hole if the seals are starting to go (but it's very little coolant). Like I said...a pic would tell a lot.

I wouldn't rush to judgement about the thermostat not opening -- given the temps a lot of up-north has been getting lately, radiator outlet temperatures can be pretty chilly.

no picture.. but the leak was coming from front corner of the black lower cover that covers the timing belt area. my friend took apart everything but how do u tell if the water pump is bad, but im replacing it anyway.. also i replaced the thermo. last time with a aftamarket.. im goin to replace the thermostat again with a OE quality carquest one and new gasket....also im goin to replace the radiator cap... question: would the water pump release coolant if the heater core is blocked?

No chance. When you've got the temperature selector set to "cool", the water valve to the heater core is shut anyhow, which effectively "blocks" the heater core. Water pump doesn't have any problems then...

well im going to replace the water pump and thermostat and rad. cap... i was just wondering why the water pump would dump out coolant. i started the car when it was cold and within 5 to 10 min it was leaking, from the lower front cover area below the water pump...

The water pump shaft seal / bearing seal is finished. Usually the small leak comes out of a weep hole to indicate failure.

I am not sure what you mean by "spits out" but you do want to make sure you get all the air of the system.

Well, couple possibilities. Maybe the cap isn't holding pressure right (should be 0.9 whatever effing units Toyota uses). OEM caps are pretty good in this regard, aftermarket is a crapshoot. Or pressures are actually too high in the radiator. Did you burp the system after the belt change? Big air bubble could probably cause this behavior.

If you burp it good and it keeps doing this, probably should have your cap tested where you bought it.
