Vienta petrol smell

1996 Vienta V6 which has just had heads fixed. Now has petrol smell coming from under bonnet and through air vents into car just after switching car off. Can this be dangerous? Can this car also be tuned after the recent engine rebuild?

A fuel leak is always dangerous. Your case could be as simple as a vacuum hose that's split or not replaced correctly - IAC, diagnosis is in order. First step is to figure where the smell is coming from - and fix it.

FWIW, major R&R tasks ofter 'kill' old hoses - a good tech would have replaced them as a matter of course. Sounds like your tech missed one or three.

Fuel leak you describe could be from moving the fuel rails, or supply line during the head work.

Ask or check the fuel injector O-rings are new, and fuel line banjo bolts have new washers (soft copper that also seals) installed.

another vote for injector o-rings or copper washers on the fuel rails. the o-rings easily tear when removing or installing injectors, and if you just had the heads worked, they came out for sure. check/replace as necessary.

also, my miata occasionally has a small fuel smell after a hard run on the race course. I haven't been able to find a fuel leak, and it only happens on very hot (95+ deg F) days AND when i have just finished running at competition speeds. all my injector o-rings and spacers (which look nearly identical to the ones on my camry) are new - replaced them all when one spontaneously sprung a leak and began SPRAYING fuel against the underside of the hood (bonnet). YIKES! thankfully i was in my neighborhood when it burst so i just pulled over and walked home, borrowed roomie's truck, and went to buy new o-rings which the dealer thankfully had in stock.

find and fix this before your car turns itself into an inferno on the side of the road!
