Aftermarket lighting help? Hid/underglow

i have no idea whether or not this is in the right place, but figured to post it here because this is the only section im really in..

but when it comes to aftermarket hid's (on a car that didnt have it) when you go to renew your tags they check your muffler, gas cap, etc. they also look under your hood, but what for? i figured they were looking to make sure everything is legal, but will they fail you for aftermarket hids?

and for my main question..

my girlfriend recently gave me a big box for an early christmas present, inside was a complete LED underbody kit from ledunderbody.com. i wired everything up as shown, but because the kit is ran from a control box, i would like to be able to have a power/kill switch for easy access. (ive hidden the control box in the glove compartment, dont say to mount this somewhere else, because its plain ugly. would rather have a switch somewhere)

by my pictures would adding a power switch work? or would the control box need to be turned on every time my power switch is turn on?

stock, exactly how its supposed to be wired

power/kill switch. want to use an extra switch for easy access to power up and power down. Or instead of adding the switch in-line would i have to tap into the control box and completely re-route the power button to my power switch?

Aftermarket lights shouldn't be a problem as long as they're DOT approved I would assume.

And your idea about the switch would work the way you have it drawn out.

ah i see so since the gen3 camry didnt come factory with Hid's having them in when inspection is a no no

so there is no need to open the control box and tamper with the stock power button? it should run straight from my switch and or the power button on the control box, which is in the glove compartment? does the control box always need to be pushed on in order for the switch to work?

No, HID's should be fine on your car, like I said as long as they're approved. The manufacturer's website should say. The HID's themselves should say DOT on them.

As for the switch, you would leave the control module on at all times and the switch would control the power flow to the controller.

i got it from ebay lol, but the box says off road use only..so pretty sure i cant have them in..but idc, just until they open the hood and start looking at things for my damn tags

idk if the control box can be left on the "on" position. its just a 1 touch button, so once you press it, it lights up saying that its on..but once you disconnect the power it turns off and stays off until press the on button again. so without power it isnt going to remember that its on the "on" position

Yeah those HID's definitely aren't DOT approved then. haha.

On the control module, you can just tape the switch down and maybe that will trick it?

That really sucks, haha. You could also tear the module apart and bypass the on/off switch and hardwire it from the switch you've installed.

the whole bypassing it wand rewiring actually sounds like a good idea..but then that would bring up another question. the control box is is also controlled from a wireless remote..so if using the remote's power on/power off and the switch is still on, then wont that cause problems?

gah there has to be a way lol

Just bypassing the power switch on the control box shouldn't interfere with the operation of the remote controls functions.
