3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
This morning I had two brand new Firestone WinterForce snow tires mounted on the front! 205/65R15's! These tires look to be awesome in the snow, & have a very aggressive tread pattern! They got great reviews on TireRack!...We are expecting some worthy snowfall tommorrow night, bring it on!......The Cooper Lifeliner Touring tires, are stored for the winter & will not come out till mid April!......

Reason: misspeling
Only two? be careful with that... if you don't have snows in the rear, expect some oversteer. They say it is always safest to put the two newest tires on the rear of the car, even if the car is FWD. Only two snow tires is asking for some understeer/oversteer situations, depending on where they are mounted, and can be more unsafe than 4 all seasons.

I'll be just fine with two on the front drive wheels! The last storm we had, the only tires that were slipping were the front drive wheels! The two rear tires are like new, all season M&S tires......He tried to sell me some for the rear, I declined, they just want your $$$!.....It's all ahout adjusting your speed for the conditions that the road dictates! So many people fail to recognize to do that & end up in a ditch or wrapped around a pole!.....
hey, oversteer can be fun! IMHO if you get enough practice and don't panic oversteer can be safer than understeer, given that you instinctively know how to control it.
I know a guy who hit the brakes on a snowy freeway and the tail end bounced off the guardrail before he could correct. Two snows on front & all seasons on rear. Didn't wreck it but the body rash

dude, running different types of tires on front vs rear is dangerous and ILLEGAL in many countries ... I would go back to shop and take those 2 rear tires. fact that only front was loosing traction on snow doesn't mean that with winter style front now the rear won't loose it (most likely it will) ...
you will do as you want, just hoping you make it through the winter with no scratches or dents ...

gotta agree, the whole snow tires on the drive wheels doctrine went out decades ago, now it's highly reccomended, if you do runs snows, you run all four snow tires.
Call me crazy but I never put snow tires on the Camry and I am from the Northeast, Brooklyn to be exact. I drive upstate a lot, as I have a cousin who lives 20 minutes away from the Canadian border. & I venture there a lot for some ATV/Quad Action, love the Honda. & of course a Bombardier Snow Mobile.
I always run All Seasons on the Camry, I usually encounter 12-14 inches unplowed sometime during the winter. I am sure there is a need for snow tires, and they are recommended, but I never needed them.
Keep moving, don't think about stopping, @ stop signs, ROLLING STOPS! Of course, if there is a car there or person STOP!
I have driven stick in the snow & its a bit of a PITA, because you always want to maintain speed, and obviously the drive wheels aren't always rolling like a A/T car.
A Camry, at least 98% Camries are perfectly engineered for the snow, FWD, A/T... what else do you need?
The only issue I have is ground clearance [on real heavy snow fall] and my "SNOW PLOW", I am not lowered or kitted but my lower air dam becomes a plow and I get steam from the radiator melting the constant barrage of snow.
My Cam does it all.

Agreed with the the people that know about tires and driving dynamics. Get four snows. In the case of daily driving, understeer is better than oversteer. All I can recommend is get two more snows for the rear.

Future Darwin Award candidate at best. Please don't be around me when the conditions get really ugly. All 4 of my snow tires get uppity around slip-sliding unstable 2 different tire compound, tread pattern, and grip mix-matches.
