your opinions on using O/D in town?

do you think using over drive in town helps MPG much or is it really not worth it and just added wear to the tranny on each shift? seems like in town i will only be in O/D for moments before it shifts down.

have you found that ECT does anything to MPG?

turning O/D off will eat more gas, even in the city. the lower the RPMs the less gas your using. there are exceptions to this but as a rule of thumb its better to just leave it on because its designed to be on all the time except for steep inclines, heavy loads or if towing somthing. keeping it off wont hurt anything either though.

the only thing the PRW(ECT) switch does is change the shift charicteristics of the tranny. it holds gears longer and down shifts faster with less throttle position. it will yeild worse gas mileage because of this.

Yeah, in most cases you wouldn't stay a few seconds in OD depending on traffic. In those cases I'd turn off OD.

Not sure if electronic controls does anything. A good example would be to compare the mechanical Ford AOD with the later AODE. Not sure if anyone's done that.

The Aisin-Warner A-series transmissions are actually a mix of mechanical and electronic controls. The ATF line pressure still relied on an antiquated throttle valve instead of a pressure control solenoid. Some European transmissions are completely shift-by-wires.
