How to fix hood prop rod clip

Hello Guys,

I have a 98 Camry V6 XLE. The hood prop rod holder clip (the plastic U shaped clip that holds the hood rod in place) is broken.

Where can i get a replacement and how to install it once i get it.

Thank You

Git it from the dealership. It just pops in/out.

You mean the grommet that holds the rod onto the front of the car? P/N 53454-33010, about $5 from finer stealerships everywhere. Or the clip that the rod snaps into when not in use? P/N 53455--33011, about $3 from the same.

Use a needle-nose pliers to grab and pull the remaining pieces of plastic out. If you scratch the paint under it, use a bit of touch-up paint before reinstalling the new prop rod holder. The new holder just pushes in. I had to do this several times on my 98. The part doesn't do well in the cold weather. I found putting a dab of grease in the holder helps a bit to keep it from breaking again in the future.

4th Generation

Yes thats what happened to me Mike. I am unable to pull out the remaining plastic which is not flat....I was confused if it was the right way to do...so I thought better ask before doing. But I am relieved since you say u faced the same problems.

I could not find the part anywhere else. I'll check with the toyota dealership today.

Thank you all for your replies !!!
