Fuel Management Problem?

I've noticed on my last few fill-ups that whenever I open up the gas tank door and begin to twist off the gas cap, that there is a steady "hissing" sound the eminates from it until it is fully opened. Is this normal or signs of something that needs to be replaced? I've never noticed this happening on my Dad's 98 I4 LE or my Moms 03 Ford Escape V6 or my Brothers Acura 01 3.2CL...

Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe your fuel pump is running warmer than others? (All other things being the same).

The sound is just gasoline vapors leaving your tank. You probably hear it more on a near-empty tank since there is more space above the liquid for vapor to form.

I suppose this response makes the most sense. I usually run the tank to like 1-2 gallons left in the warm months. But it still has been doing it even though Ive been filling up @ a 1/4 tank for the cold months.

It does it now because during the cold months, we (refiners) add more volatile components that vaporize easier in lower temperatures.

my tanks have always done that. i never really noticed if it did it in a pattern. always seemed to do it though after a long highway drive.
