Does anyone have any experience installing these headers, and possibly have a writeup or DIY?Trying to install on my brothers 2001 1MZ camry (SkiUtah1080)
About how much time should I devote to this? My Gen 4.5 is my DD. Is this something I should start Saturday morning and have done by Sunday afternoon? I've heard it is a nightmare to do. I don't want to get started and have to re-assemble the stock stuff. I am rather flexible and have air tools.
you first need to get under there and inspect each nut and bolt that you will be removing. if theres some heavily rusted nuts you may be in for a tough job. in most cases if this is the first time that these parts have been removed(especially the cat bolts) youll be replacing some exhaust manifold studs or the cat bolts.
assuming youll come across at least one...it can turn into a full day project if ya dont have the correct tools. its almost never an easy bolt on because of how old the parts are.
I looked at mine...started, broke a stud, then said f**k it and took it to a shop. they had it on and golden in about 2 hrs.

That may just be the route to take. I'll take it to my local exhaust shop and see what they charge for install.
+1 for taking it to a shop first. If they charge to much, remember that some autoparts stores have loan a tool programs if you don't have anything needed for the install.
also... my rule of thumb... it takes 4 times long than the directions say. So 24 hours. Decent weekend project if you devote all your time to it. And having a friend always helps!

on book, I believe it is 6hours labor- and it can actually take tht long depending on how lucky they get, so when they say 6 hours, it's the truth.
mine did, but it was a 94 so that made it worse. but in the end it cost me 350, but they had given me a quote before hand.
the only problem with planning to do it youself is the tools necissary if somthing goes wrong. if all goes well simple tools are used but if you strip or break a stud then you need to extract it and you may end up needing a shop to fix it anyways.
