Until the engine is hot it pays no attention to the oxy sensors, it just runs rich.

O2

O2 Sensors Work Instantly And Are Extremely Vital, Maybe Faulty ECU. Try Borrowing One From Wreakers And Testing To See If It Runs Better Or Throws A Code?

FWIW, I had the same thing happen with my 95 5S-FE -- I never could get a CEL when running with one or both oxygen sensors disconnected, even when using the prescribed driving pattern in the FSM. Let me know if you figure out what's going on with that...

FWIW, the CEL works -- yanking the coolant sensor connector causes an immediate CEL.

Its something that bothered me too, last spring my O2 Sensor on the manifold just 'fell out' some how, some way. The bracket was there, the O2 Sensor was not, and the wire was singed. All the while doing 60 MPH on the Parkway. & I went home with the car. No CELs what so ever, and CEL Light Works.
