3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I dislike crap drivers, I hope they fall in a ditch and delegated to walking the rest of their lives.
We had rain earlier, nothing horrible, rather light. I go to stop at a stop sign, right after I stopped, I felt the car buck up with a thud. I looked in my rear view mirror to see an Accord.
I get out a female driver is there, she rolls down her window & proceeds to talk to me in polish, I told her, I only speak english. Her passenger, assuming her husband a (shaved)bald man. Albiet the driver was blonde, they also had a crying baby in their rear seat. I looked at their car, it was in bad shape. A 2002 Honda Accord Sedan, silver. Their bumper cracked in multible places & hanging on the left side, and the head light also cracked & dislodged. I was afraid to sneak a peak @ the venerable Camry. I peered over, and well she was in far better shape. Rear bumper was fine, just wrinkles from the 17 year old paint getting stressed, and & decent chunk of paint off the bumper. But I was content. I guess they werent paying attention, and preparing to make a right, without use of common sense. So the Accord's left side of the front bumper pushed on my Camry's rear right side of the bumper. I didnt feel like wasting my time, I was with a chick. So they asked if I wanted the cops I said no it was fine. Their Accord wasnt in good shape. They asked if I & my passenger was okay, I asked about them since they had a young child, the man replied, "Yes, but the car, not so much". So Yeah.
So comments appreciated, rest assured the Gen 3 Camry was the best Camry to date.
& Just for reference, I was @ 0 MPH w/ brakes applied, and the Accord was about 10 MPH.

Honestly, the Gen 3s are known to be really tough at these situations. During their production, Toyota wasn't in a rush competing with other manufacturers, so our cars had been very well re-engineered. They perform so well at situations similar or even worse than yours even with just a few airbags on.

I rear ended a Pontiac Grand Prix that was at a stop light. I was going about 50 mph not paying attention look up and theres a stopped car infront of me. I automatically hit the brakes and prepared for impact. I hit them pretty hard. I think I hit them at about 25 or 30 mph. My first thought was that my front end was going to be f***ed but I get out made sure the older couple was fine(they were) checked their car had a small black line on the bumper from my paint and then I looked at mine and they only thing wrong was the lens on my bumper light was cracked in the corner and thats it. I love my Camry
The left rear corner of my rear bumper was recently struck by a 2010 Camry backing up in a parking lot, yes a girl was driving! I had absolutely no marks or damage whatsoever! She wad a nice scratch on the rear bumper of her new Camry!..........(LOL)....
Wow! It could have been worse! I'm glad it wasn't.
Gen 3/3.5 Camrys are TOUGH! FTW!
Yep!
Thanks for the Concern!
Gen 3/3.5, they're sexy & can get dirty.
low maintenance, dependable, hot broads... like where the hell else could you find those qualities in a girl.

I did earlier today, she's fine under the bumper, the absorber is in perfect shape. The Accord bumper probably absorbed most of the energy, as it wasnt in good shape.

Good to hear you're ok though.
Thanks!
Yeah, I had the shop manual out ripping apart my bumper.
It was fine, thanks for the concern!

Exactly, we are very fortunate to drive one of the best engineered family sedans to date. heck they even put two windshield wipers on the rear of your wagon.

Exactly!
Instead of M1 Abrams, lets make the 1992-1996 Camry the main battle tank of the US Military. The Camry would destroy the Abrams anyway in a fender bender.

Thats funny!
Yeah, the way a lot of cars are built now, they cost a lot more to repair in a fender bender in comparison to our Camries.

they are built tough man i had a crownvic taxi slam me at around 10 mph from behind with no damage to my bumper his bumper was pressed up and bent the hood a bit but nothing for my rear bumper gotta love it gen 3 for life
the same thing happened to me whith my old gen3. i was hit by an explorer and ill be damned if there was nothing more then a scratch in the bumper. his bumper had almost completely fallen off and one of his lights was bent down a little. i just told the guy "f**k it, have a nice day". no sense in wasing time on that.
then 2 years later a very small car drives into(inside) my trunk and its all over.

Isn't Ford's saying "Built Ford tough" or something like that
Isn't Ford's saying "Built Ford tough" or something like that
Yes, but they're not built TOYOTA tough. They're "built FORD tough." That's like trying to compare the durability of diamonds to the durability of...cheese...
