93 camry problem

i have a 93 camry with a v-6. i have a problem with losing coolant into the recovery tank, my cap at the radiator pops at 9 lbs, i ahve replaced the cap 3 times but they all do the same thing, after a few months of driving my car starts to overheat due to the loss of the coolant. has anyone experienced this? im wondering if my neck on the radiator is bad. i have 196,000 miles and did the timing belt, radiator, all hoses and thermostat at 165,000 and i have had this problem since all this work was done.

You might have air in your cooling system...

If your cooling system is able to maintain normal, stable temperature regulation with normal driving, and still eventually loses coolant from reservoir overflow, then something is over-pressurizing it. This can potentially be air as already mentioned, but by now it should have burped itself. The only other thing is a leaking head gasket. At this mileage and with this engine, it is not uncommon. For your peace of mind, get a sniffer test (ie block test) done to check for a leak.

Can you describe the coolant loss a bit more? Is it just leaking out of the top of the reservoir, or actually boiling and forcing itself out of the top?

With the car running and warmed up, is the cooling system pressurized? Is it hard to squeeze the upper radiator hose?
