3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Nope.
My current Camry will stay in my possession for sometime. As it's also my mother's back up car. But, since I have stayed out of trouble , she offered to buy me a car. My cap is $4200 & the car cannot be a lemon.
I really love the 2nd Generation Legends BUT, they are known to have Blown Headgaskets and overheat issues. & I really can't be shelling money into a car. Maybe I'm spoiled by the virtually maintenance free camry.
Well, I really would like to move onto something new, but!
Gen. 3 Camrys are in my blood. I really don't know what to do. I think I really want a 1994 Toyota Camry Coupe V6 with options like sunroof, power seats, rims, etc. But, I am not too fond of the Gen 3.5's styling, I have no clue why. A blonde girl only like 20 has a beautiful '94 coupe in blue in my neighborhood with all the options, but the car was trashed within a year & she smokes in it. It's prolly racking up the miles & poorly maintained.
If not, I think I might aim for 1992-1994 Toyota Camry V6 loaded. & in the color black/white/silver/blue.
I want mileage to be <105,000.
I would look into Gen 4.5's too. Now I am no regular manny driver, but I feel it is basic common sense to get the car atleast moving, and something that is learned like riding a bike, so a 1992-1993 V6 Manny, as rare as it is, is not out of the question but prolly an auto is preferred.
Any suggestions for the $4,200 I can spend? Not just Toyota but anywhere else?
Thanks!

SADLY, SHE HAS MUCH MORE MODS...
2000ish accord coupes arent to bad. Look alot better than camry imo too.
If your into trucks/suvs you could get a exploder or something like that. Youd have to be able to do your own repairs though, or youd be better off with a econo car.

My camry has been sitting idle (lol jobless!!) for the past month or so. Jerky steering wheel.

Yes its "virtually" maintenance free but in "reality" it has lightened my wallet by hundreds of dollars in past couple of months

After a stressful day at work in the evening when you rummage TN for answers "anything" would get in your blood.

Eh, a 2nd-gen Explorer, provided it has the 302 V8, isn't bad. The V6 of that generation though... biggest POS ever!!! You could also go for a e30 3-series, or get your hands on a 1st gen Solara

Need performance parts?
Shoot me a PM, I'll see what I can do
a civic or accord would be next on my list to consider. mayber a subaru, but those will either be more expensive or have more miles.
No Civics.
I'm a Toyota Boy!
& my friend has a '03 Civic I hate it, its cramped & it is much lower quality then my Camry.
But, your right I really wouldnt mind an Accord. But 90's Accords are such rust magnets.

$4200 will definitely limit your choices tho. Maybe you could use the money to improve/mod your 92?
I mean 70k, 92 is rare.
My mom said it's just for a another car, because I said I would be able to get a decent car for it. My friend is getting $15K-20K for a used Tahoe or Escalade, lucky kid. I have looked at all but Autotrader, thanks eyeball. It's a hard cap to live under but I found some nice cars, including an Acura Legend w/ 105,000 for only $3,800 which atleast the body & interior on in great shape. I dont know. If it wasnt for the headgaskets I'd join the Honda boat. & my car isnt that rare. the mileage is of course, but you have a worthy coupe with a new paint job. Care to sell? joking of course, I hope you never get rid of that sexy car.

I hear you bro I love the accord coupes from 98-02, looked at a couple some of them are far away.

I'm kind of worried about Suburu, I really love Japanese cars from 1990's but I feel there is just more to go wrong with the Subby.

So true, the old Camry hasn't taken any large amount of money from me yet. It only required $1000 dollars of maintanence through the years 2000-2010. & no replaced parts just typical stuff.

I am so scared of Domestic during the 1990's, not my thing. I want a Toyota/Honda from the 1990's. I love 'em with relatively good quality. My friend has an 03 Explorer, and not kidding you, the car is already on its 3rd (or 4th, but I am leaning on 3rd Engine). & I totally overlooked the 1st Gen Solara. I have to check it out!

But, as we know, Florida Cars are usually in the best shape of the bunch.
Guys I don't know what to get. FML.

Good man right here. My mother has a 2001 Eddie Bauer Explorer with the 302. Almost up there with my Bimmer in terms of qaulity. The leather is comfortable, AWD is works great, plenty of power but not unrefined power, and it looks awesome. Pretty much bullet proof. Only downside is the gas mileage.
