Opinions on motor mounts

I went to my local stealership and they want 310 + tax for both front and rear motor mounts. This seems completely ridiculous to me, as rockauto.com sells them for under 100 plus shipping.

What are your guys' opinions on this? I don't think I can justify spending 300 on OEM mounts, but I do want the mounts to get replaced as I'm taking my engine out anyway.

I got mine from O'Reilly for abound $80 each. I'm sure Advance Auto or Auto Zone would have carried the same brands. That was the closest one. oem does not mean better for most parts.

$310 each, or for the pair? $310 for the pair is a good price. $310 each is pure stealership.

Those two big fluid-filled mounts are spendy. Town & Country Toyota ( http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=215498 ) is pretty reasonable compared to most "local" stealerships, and relatively close to you, shipping-wise. Those two mounts would total about $285 total plus shipping (they aren't doing one of their free shipping promotions right now , so that's going to be another $25 or so. Call it $300 out the door. You don't mention the mount on the tranny side, but I wouldn't waste time with replacing it if you're thinking about it -- that mount hardly ever wears out, and it's pretty easy to replace through the driver's-side wheel well if you decide to do so in the future.

Not sure about the Rockauto ones, but a lot of crap mounts on fleabay are solid rubber, wear out in a heartbeat, and beat your engine to death.

Rockauto has 2 choices. The Anchor one looks really cheap. They are 110 for the pair. They also have Beck/Arnley ones that look a bit better, and they are 210 for the pair. I'd spring for the Beck/Arnley's if anyone could give me a good opinion on them.

Thanks so far guys. I need to make this decision today to get the mounts on Friday if I decide to order.

For engine mounts I'd always prefer OEM. But if you want aftermarket I'd go Beck Arnley. I've used Beck Arnley and Anchor for dog bones. It's more like "time sensitive" matter to wait for shipping. But for major mounts I'd go OEM.

But if you want to go aftermarket I'd go Beck Arnley before Anchor. I think these are the only two choices.

Haux has done some work to his front suspension but he wasn't thrilled about the rust that's showing up on aftermarket parts. FWIW.

The front mount tends to get major cracks. Why not OEM on the front, and if you really have to save money go BA for others? Last I saw, I know for sure BA head gaskets were OEM, not sure about the engine mounts, probably made in China.

Again, for engine mounts I'd prefer OEM.

I had a set of aftermarket mounts before.. But never even put them on the car. Ended up only using the tranny mount because I needed a 5-speed mount for my swap. But from the looks of it, I wouldn't even waste my time with the non-own mounts because the quality was extremely poor, and I ended up packing my tranny mount with polyurethane so that it would stop flexing

As everybody is saying, for major mounts, I would go oem, and 300 for both of the major mounts is a good price. Here in Canada, they want over 300 just for one.

I've read here in other threads that OEM tends to be the best for rubbers.

You can purchase them http://www.1sttoyotaparts.com/ or Toyota Parts Outlet.

I think I bought all four of mine from 1sttoyotaparts for about $260 or $280 shipped?

How can you tell if the front or rear mounts are bad? So far I've replaced the front one and it looks to be in good shape. I pulled up the rubber cover and there's no signs of any damage. The transmission mount had a SLIGHT crack in the rubber toward the top part of the metal... but also looked to be in good shape.

Anyway, I have no use for these old mounts, but I'm not going to throw them away. If this isn't one of those things where you specifically want NEW ones because you're unable to change them yourself or whatever, then I'd buy OEM from one of the two above sites, whichever ends up being cheaper. Otherwise, you can have my old ones. I see nothing seriously wrong with them... except the dogbone. But that's the cheapest one anyway.

I'm not even exactly sure my motor mounts need replacing, I am just inquiring about costs as I'm pulling the engine anyway and it would seem stupid to not do them both while the bay is empty.

My car has 152k miles on it. (5SFE)
