Disabling Twilight Sentinel 2000 Camry

Hey Guys,

I just installed HID's into my 2000 Camry. How do I disable the twilight sentinel so that when I go into a parking garage my HID's DON'T turn on. Please let me know where the twilight sentinel is also.

Thanks!

to TN!

The "defroster nozzle garnish" has two light sensors at the far ends. They're located at the far end of the dash board, where it meets the windshield. Each "sensor" has a connector under it. I don't remember if the connectors pull out at all, or if you can reach it without partially removing the dashboard. I can have another looksee the next time I visit the 2000 XLE at the salvage yard.

The one pictured in this diagram does not have the sensors, but it's listed as also being available with "Automatic Light Control."

He's likely just talking about the sensor that turns the lights on at night!

Yeah, I edited my post. Figured out what it was.

yes. That is exactly what I am talking about. I was just able to pull it out of it's location, but I cannot get it out. It's the little black circular thing on the front defroster panel correct?

Thanks!!

Yes, there should be two of them. Are you trying to pull them out upward or downward?

Interesting. There were two on that XLE, one at each end of that defrost vent. I will be at that salvage yard tomorrow. The dashboard there is partially pulled out, so I'll see if I can disconnect those. I'll post the results.

There are a bunch of threads on this. All you have to do is unplug the sensor located in the far right corner (passenger side) of the dashboard. I also have the 2000 Camry LE. Could you post some pics of the HID's too?

I have a 99 LE and there is only one sensor.
Also, I have seen conflicting information on the validity of HIDs in non HID cars. Such as glare to oncoming cars. How do you get a good/functional installation that is legal??????????
PIX please. I want HIDs but I want it done right.

Why would the headlights turning on be bad for HID's?

He was specifically mentioning how they'd turn on in parking garages. I imagine that would blind people, being so close.

Oh, I don't know much about HID's so I thought maybe it is bad to have them cycle on and off a lot.
