3rd Generation ct26 question

I always thought the ct26 was a cheaper turbo built for quick spool and low boost.(right around 13psi max) i know this is a 2nd gen with a full 3sgte swap but my thoughts are just towards the turbo itself. Could his be a rebuilt? cause hes running 16psi it says and thats a little overkill for that turbo.

I am definitely a noob when it comes to F/I but i was just curious and it has been on my mind for a few days though.

Just wanted a pro to clear it up for me. Ive been startin to research alot though about the 5sgte build and may be thinking of starting to piece some stuff together after this summer though. This summer is based on a paint job and possibly 5 spd swap which i know im going to do before i even think of a turbo.

p.s. I am liking his turbosmart megasonic bov

well you can always upgrade the ct26, but the ct26 from what i read can push more psi but the only thing is that the pressurized air gets hot quickly when overkilling the tubo, pkus you overheat the bearings aswell...mr2oc.com have alot of info on it

16 psi for the the CT26 is pretty much it's max. After that, it " runs out of breath" and is out of it's efficiency island. Like stated above. the boost charge just gets too hot and the turbo is over worked. The turbine becomes the " bottle neck" and can't flow all that exhaust.

I'm by no means an expert on turbocharging, but if you're looking for 16psi or more, why not a T3/T4? They sell adapter plates so you can bolt it to the 3S-GTE manifold.

Well, they may have mistaken the fact that on the 3sgte MR2, Toyota put in a fuel cut that kicks in at 12 psi. Not sure if the Celica Alltrac does too- but it's likely.
