3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So I have issues with my alignment and I need to replace some rusted out stuff in the butt end of my 94 V6 Wagon. Problem I am having is what to call what I'm looking for...
They're the rearmost, adjustable rods on the back of the car that go side-to-center on the car. Is this a control arm? A trailing arm? What would it be? Any part numbers I can search for? They have rusted bad enough that torching them bright red still doesn't allow the nuts to move.
Also, it has a lot of rust on the springy thing that attaches to the brake thingee in the center of the car, near those arms. What would these pieces be called and where might I find some?

Perhaps you're referring to the brake proportioning valve???

2001 Yamaha FZ1, Ivan's jet kit, resprung all around, Ohlins in the rear, Race Tech cartridge emulators in the forks, 45k miles.
If I had to guess, I'd say it is some sort of brake valve that senses the weight in the rear of the car. The sedans don't have the unit, but the ES300 does. I am definitely at a loss to know what the f*** it would be called. There is a rod attached to the control arm and it goes up to the valve, which is mounted to a crossmember. It's been cold for pics, but I will get some if I need to.
There are 2 arms per side in the rear, but the one in front is non-adjustable. The rear one can be adjusted for proper alignment. I was looking on Rockauto, but no pics and nothing was specific.

Well, I found the part numbers, but the site doesn't have any idea what those parts are... 48730/40F for the arms, 47900 for the brake thingee. No luck on google either.

Call your local dealer with the part numbers and ask for a description.

1989 Camry-Gone but not forgotten. Car has become a birthday gift for my cousin.
1997 Mazda B2300 213,xxx miles - New flasher relay installed.
48740-33020 is Rear Suspension Arm Assembly No. 2 LH, and 48730-33020 is the RH. If memory serves me right from what I read in another thread, those are the Rear Lateral Control Arms (No. 2).
47900-(33030 or 33060) is the Load Sensing Valve Assembly w/ Spring.
If you call the dealership, the only way you'll get a better explanation of what these parts do is if the parts guy (or whoever you speak with) actually has the technical knowledge. Because the descriptions I provided here are the same ones from the diagrams, and it's the same information they have access to.
