Blinking AC light on digital climate control

Hi - I drive a 1999 XLE 2.2 GX and all this while for last 7 years, no issue with the digital climate control. However, lately, I experienced this

- while driving with the aircon on - the A/C light on the climate control starting to blink. I switched it off - after like 10 -15 secs I switched it on again and the aircon light remained stable and cold air started to come in again like usual

My mechanic said most likely would be the climate control unit sensor and he advised against doing anything until the aircon system cannot be started (like dead vs intermittent now) so that I dont waste any money changing the module if that is not the reason for the malfunction.

thanks in advance

Did you by chance drive over a huge puddle of water right before it began blinking?

Blinking A/C usually means that the A/C compressor isn't coming up to speed. Hard to diagnose if it's intermittent -- could be a lot of things...magnetic clutch, belts, etc. Sort of like your mechanic said -- don't sweat it until it gets bad enough you can troubleshoot it.

the light can also blink if the refrigerant (r134a) pressure is either way too high or too low/nonexistant. running it either way will damage your compressor. and compressors aren't cheap!

have a mechanic (a different one) hook up some gauges to both the high and low side (not just the low side as i've seen many lazy mechanics do) and get some good readings to troubleshoot it that way. could be something as simple as low refrigerant (which means there's a leak somewhere) or a blockage in the line (replace the line and/or expansion valve).

a/c work isn't that difficult once you learn the theory behind it all... the hard part is just replacing parts!

Hi, am facing the problem mention above. my car is yr 2001 with auto climate control.

the A/C switch is blinking when my aircond is on. i try off for 12,20 sec then on again. the swithc is still blinking.

Any idea what is the cause of it ?

I would vote low fluid - all the autoparts stores sell testing kits (cheap) - I would not run it with the light flashing...just my .02
