electrical problem -car runs but almost nothing electrical inside workss

i have a 97 Camry 4 cyl. automatic trans - while getting the car jumped off the cables got crossed and now the car runs but almost nothing electrical works. i have checked ALL fuses and replaced everything that blew. (only two blew - i think they where efi, dome or ecu-b located under hood)

list of what does not work: gauges, radio, climate control, power locks, power windows, tail lights, turn signals

list of what does work: head lights(hi and low), interior light, airbag light, door ajar light

also the shifter wont change positions without pushing shift lock override.

the only thing that i can get is a response from is the power locks and window buttons. When i push the buttons i hear a light clicking sound under the dash on the left-hand side of the steering wheel.

Either the bulbs themselves blew or you've got some relays not getting power. Did you check the fuses and fusible links under the hood? Sounds like a couple of the links may be blown.

have you checked your volts?? use a DMM to check what volts you are getting at the battery with the car off. then turn the car on and check again what you are getting.

What he said. The ALT fuse is in the big fuse box, engine compartment, near driver's side wheel well. To replace fuse, you have to pull the fuse box, remove the bottom, and unbolt the fuse from underneath.

Oh, and just to cover the bases, did you check both fuse boxes? The one in the engine compartment I just mentioned, and the other behind the coin box to the left of the steering wheel inside the passenger compartment.

BTW, there is an electrical wiring diagram for the 99 at www.camrystuff.com , Generation 4. A bit tough to trace things out, but it might be of use.

thanks for helping

thanks for the link to the manual
it is the best manual i have used. especially the wiring diagram.

i checked ALL fuses(both boxes and alternator fuse). only 2 fuses were blown. they where fuse #14 dome and #15 ecu-b located under hood. all other fuses were fine.

After looking at the wiring diagram, i figure the issue will most likely be a Fusible Link Block or a Junction Block. I guess i will be getting out the test light and climbing under the dash to track down the problem with the help of the diagram. Hopefully before my back gives out.

Please keep the ideas coming, just in case there is more wrong than Fusible Link Block or a Junction Block (if that is the problem).

Since everyone has been so willing to help and i have always found helpful info here in the past i will make sure i post the outcome for future.

Once again, thanks for the help!

This problem happened to my 95 6 months ago. so I jumped it off and it cranked. So since it's 15 years old and the alternator hasnt been changed I said hell I will put a altantor on it. After that battle was over=

Still no power on the guages and windows or a/c? and had to be jumped off? So I called my mechanic/meguiver buddy over. He found that the fuse under the dash was blown that runs the dead items. So all I had was a15 fuse put it in and everything worked? It had a 10 fuse in it so he said get a 10 asap.=

So i put the 10 amp in and it blew in 5seconds. son of a!!. So i called meguiver and he said bring it to his shop. He looked it over and = The a/c compressor was locking up and blowing the fuse. =

So he put a new a/c compressor on and its all good. Hope this helps?

My 1992 seems to be having the exact same problem. I have not been lucky in findinf anything with the issue. I have checked all fusses in all the fuse boxes and everything seems good. I heard to check the pink 30 amp fuse behind the coin box in the dash but mine was good. I also swapped out the relays in the fuse box and finally the entire fuse box. What ever feeds that fuse box upstream is probably the cause of my troubles.
Let me know if you have any luck. Thanks
