Brake light problem

OK, so I finally go around to figuring out why my tail light warning is on all the time and it turns out that my "High-mount Stop Light" was burnt, so I replaced it (bulb# 921 in case anyone is wondering). Now the strange thing is that every time I use the brakes, the tail light warning comes on again.

Any suggestions guys?

Thanks so much.

Also I'd like to mention that the warning light goes away if I'm not pressing on the brakes. Any ideas? Do I have to swap out that yellow light sensor box that some people mentioned before in other threads?

Thanks.

I need to replace the bulb. Just out of curiousity does that cause your brake lights to stay on? My e-brake light is always on and my brake lights are always on full blast whenever I turn on my headlights. I wondered if it was the cars way of warning people that my brakes or something in the brake system is screwed up.

Nope, luckily I'm only having problems with my tail light warning (cross my fingers).

OK, issue resolved. I replaced all the bulbs in the back and I've checked the yellow tail light sensor (it wasn't burnt out). Still perplexed, I checked the wiring on the aftermarket bulb. It turns out that the wiring is different on the aftermarket bulb than the stock one, so I wired it according to the stock one and *POOF* no problems, woo-hoo! To everyone that's still troubleshooting their cars, keep at it and don't give up!

The reason the light comes on on the dash is because the aftermarket bulb you used has a different wattage. The dash light comes on whenever it detects that there is a difference in power usage, aka when you first press the brakes after the car is turned on. What you can do is get a variable resistor and adjust it until the light goes away, or you can just buy an OEM bulb or take one out from an old toyota around the same year or so. This is a great way to use LED strips and create custom LED brake lights too.
