3rd Generation am i right? and how much?

after many long days of thinking...i came to the conclusion (correct me if i'm wrong), that if im getting springs, struts, mounts, ect will cost amost as much as getting coilovers..

these prices are what i came up with and they are the setup i was planning to get

tein springs= 200

tokico struts = 380

ebay mounts (all)= 100

kyb boots (all)= 44

total is about 700 (too lazy to do math correctly)

and coilovers are like 1000

am i on the ball park on the prices here? if i am im, sticking with coilovers, but if im wrong and going with the springs/strut route is ($600) than im taking that route...just my thoughts

and how much did you guys spend on your springs/strut setup??

my car is the 93 camry (if that matters)

My Tokico struts were about 400, Eibach springs about 200.
KYB mounts were another ~200. Rear mounts came with boots. I got OEM front boots. Another 100? So.. $900 give or take, just for these parts. I replaced all other components as well.

.... with coilovers, you can pretty much do it yrself because you dont need to compress this, mount that, yada-yada.. its one whole unit you bolt on.

$290 for the set of Tokicos
$70 for the set of Intraxs

But I got really lucky with the struts because I got a 30% off eBay coupon, and I got really lucky finding the springs for that cheap as well (but they were made for a V6 gen4, so I had to do a few "adjustments" to reach my current ride height).

if you get the best available then yeah its almost as much as coilovers. the basic K-sports can be had for just under a grand and will handle FAR better then any spring strut combo available. the good thing is that the basic Ksports are MUCH better then they used to be. they have redone their valving and are much stronger. so i would say that now there would be no question about them. the only bad part is how much they are to fix when they break. each front cartrage is 100 bucks and one big pothole can do some serious damage.

the selling points for me with the Ksports would be the pillow ball mounts w/camber adjustment(no more strut mounts), height adjustability without removing the coilover and the added handeling.

a fellow member has a set forsale for 650 right now too.

thanks guys, by the looks of things it is just about as much as getting the k sport...

and bb, didnt u get your k sport redone? or was it someone else??...oh and who is selling theirs??

one more question, does k sport last as long as any tokicos, i meant is it that sensitive to the point where hitting a good pothole will damage the coilovers???

im in the process of rebuilding mine. the old Ksports would never out last the tokicos but these new ones would be pretty close. but remember...coilovers are designed for racing so longevity isnt the main goal and no coilover system likes pot holes. the Ksport GT pros are much better though.

I chose to go for the KYBs initially and later add the Eibachs later for monetary reasons. Coil overs seem like they might be more hassle than they are worth in the long run, and you'll save a bit of dough too.

coilovers are never worth it in the long run.. just like modding a camry, its never worth it in the long run. But we do what we do just for kicks.

modding a camry is DEFINITELY worth it in the long run, no matter what.

For me it's more about the experience and all the shit I learn by having to do everything custom.

Kyb's suck somethin fierce now that i've had em for awhile. Barely stiffer than stock, and don't add a whole lot of handling benefits.

Get some coils and keep a couple hundred stored away if you need to rebuild em.

Id have to agree with you there. I love the completely custom mods we have to do to make shit work. Makes for some truly custom mods.

I beg to differ. I love my kybs and I believe they stiffened it up a bit. I like em cuz they were relatively inexpensive and they were far better than the 20 year old stock junk. Just My Oppinion
