What's the best oil filter and oil 5w-30 oil to use on an Camry 2.2L I4? Just wandering because everytime I get an oil change and start driving it feels like a brand new car and as I run some miles up it feels sluglish and burns more gas than normal. Not to mention its kinda hard to change gears at low rpm it would normally go to the next gear under 2500rpm but now and then I go over 3500rpm and I hate it. Who knows maybe its time for a tune up or something I do have a lot of miles on it (186,212to be exact) and had the timing belt done on 7 months ago. I rarely drive it though due to bad wheels the car vibrates constantly going do the road.

Hey! It ain't much to beat the block down, but it'll work for now...
it feels new because the oil is new and lubricates the internals oh so damn good!! - but the shifting issue, is a whole other subject.. you might want to get that checked or monitor yr right leg as you pile on the miles and make sure that the car's warmed up too. good luck!
EDIT: Never go to the places where the oil comes from a HUGE METAL DRUM with a PUMP. .. those things are just NO GOOD.
Give me Castrol GTX, Purolator Pure1 Filter and call it a day.
Camry runs great, but I only have 71K on my '92 5SFE.
Oil Changes dont make the car feel different for me.

Just an FYI. The recommended oil viscosity for your car when new was 10W-30, not 5W-30. It should state that on the oil cap itself, if the cap is original. Being that your car has some miles on it and that you live in a fairly warm climate, I would stick with 10-30.

How cold does it have to be to consider dropping to 5W-30?

I run a genuine Toyota OEM Filter, & use either Castrol Edge Syn, or Mobile 1 High Mileage Syn, depends what one is cheaper at China Mart! In the winter I use 5w-30 & use 10w-30 in the Other months!.....I usually change oil out at 4K miles!!! I want 200K miles minimum from this 3VZFE!!! I'm at 114K miles now....

I recently had new Valve Cover Gaskets done at the local Toyota Dealership & they said it was spotless underneath the covers!......

I can feel a difference with my car after an oil change. It's quieter and smoother. My oil comes out dark dark black (so it's doing its job) probably because I drive my car hard. My mom's gen 3.5 on the other hand, its oil comes out still comes out brown/light brown. I need to up the OCI but I figure oil is cheap, a new motor is not
As far as which oil is best for your car, try out whatever is on sale and eventually you'll figure out which one you and your car likes best. I've settled on Castrol Syntec for my own Camry, and whatever syn/syn-blend I can find in 10W-40 for my mom's gen 3.5. It's hard to come by so I usually end up with Mobil1

IIRC ~50 degrees is when 5W-30 Loses its efficiency & works adequately sub-zero. ~0 Degrees is when 10W-30 loses its efficiency but works well through regular temperatures. 5W-30 is good for easier flow upon cold start up.

I did an experiment & poured some Mobil-1 Syn 10-30 in a plastic container & put it in my freezer next to some Mobil-1 5w30! I freezed then both for a day! The 5w30 poured much faster than the 10w30!!! In the winter I use 5w30!!!
It's more important to frequently change oil on that engine and get rid of contaminants. The crankcase capacity is just too low. A shorter oil change interval (~2500-3000 miles) is better for these engines. So I'd vote for dino and PureOne.
Purolator PureOne. PL14477. This is the longer version of the PL14476, also used on 2.4L engines.
The 3.0L V6 version filters should also fit. A longer version of it is the Motorcraft FL400S. But these are primarily for enthusiasts wanting more filtration areas.
Valvoline dino is a good oil. So is Castrol GTX. For synthetics Mobil-1 and Castrol. I'm not counting the boutique oils of course.

Karl,
I'm have been using dino 10W-30 in my 94 Camry 4 cylinder 5SFE engine since it was new, with no starting problems in any weather. 10W-30 is what was recommended for my car from the factory.

I had 10W-30 in about a month ago when the temperatures got really really low around our area. (-10F), and I had a couple of cold starts where I could hear the engine "crunch" through the oil. My mechanic put in 5W-30 after my rear main work.
