Hi I have a Camry 2000 V6. My car throws out alot of fumes when I start it. I have to fill up 4 quarts of oil every week. So 1 Quart every 80-100 miles. It has 150,000 mileage. Someone told me to change the PCV valve but I am having trouble finding it. Can someone help me in this matteR? Since Id ont know alot about cars if someone has aCamry 2000 v6 and can show me a picture of where pcv valve is, its gonna make my life a lot easier but words are appreciated too.
Please help before my engine dies.
Thanks
that much oil is definitely not normal. i dont think replacing the PCV valve is going to fix anything. you either have a leak or you are burning oil. If it is a leak then maybe its time to change some gaskets.

4qts/week is way too much. Sounds like leaked oil burning on exhausts. Valve cover gasket set probably needs replacement. Look on the back of the engine, is there a lot of oil dripping down there?
On these cover screws you may need to add a couple of washers because the silly wavy washers are probably all loose. That's another reason for leaks.
Also, on the rear valve cover, you'll see a rubber hose and a valve sticking out of the valve cover. That's the PCV valve. It looks like:

First off, you have to figure out where the oils going. If you can, park in a consistent spot and see if there are any oil drips (well more like puddles if youve got 4 quarts gone a week).
Definitely change the PCV valve.
If your car is burning 4 quarts a week the engine would be very very tired. aka Running like a 2 cycle lawnmower engine. Does it smoke a ton at spotlights?
Look over the engine bay and see where it could be leaking from, also underneath the car.
Have the timing belt and oil seals ever been done?

I am changing the PCV Valve tomorrow.
It does throw a lot of smoke out when I turn it on. I haven't noticed any oil leaks. Timing belt and oil seals have never been done and I don't even know what they are and what does it mean to "do" it
1 quart every 80-100 miles is a tremendous amount of oil to be using. Your car has to either be leaking a tremendous amount of oil or burning it up. If it's burning it, the smoke you will see will have a bluish tint to it as it comes out the tail pipe. What color is the smoke you see?
With the questions you are asking it sounds like you do not know a lot about cars, (I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, only helpful) so I recommend that you take it in to a professional and have them look at the oil usuage situation.
Incidently, the timing belt is a rubber belt that keeps the camshaft (the shaft that causes the valves to open and close) to be in synch with the crankshaft (the shaft that moves the pistons up and down). This belt is somewhat internal to the engine, as several parts on the front of the engine have to be removed to replace it. When this belt breaks, the engine dies and will not restart until the belt is replaced. The recommended replacement interval for your car was 90,000 miles.

So I changed the PCV Valve and the grommet. As I expect my luck to be it seems like pcv was not the problem. My building has a vallet parking so I don't really get a chance to notice the oil leakage as I don't know if the oil on the ground was from my car or the car they had there before. I don't park as I don't have a parking spot assigned yet. I will talk to my garage manager and ask him to park in a clean spot all nite. I will make sure my oil is topped and then see if there is a leakage.
What do you guys suggest? Should I take it to a mechanic or can something like oil leakage easy to find and fix? I am adventurous so I always like to fix things myself but I cant risk the car for my love of fixing things and its a car so...
And if you guys prefer taking it to a mechanic, can someone guide me on how much should it cost me roughly. Many of the auto repair shops are rip offs around here and I have never had to take it to an auto repair shop before so I am kinda novice on this matter.
What you can do is buy a little kit from advance or other similar stores, made to find oil leaks.
It comes with a chemical you pour in your oil that glows under a certain light. You'll also need the special light and special glasses to see it with. Get under the car, look around with the light and glasses and whatever is glowing, is your leak!
What I suggest you do when looking for an honest mechanic is to ask friends, neighbors or relatives who they use and can they recommend them. You can also go on Cartalk's (Click and Clack) website and refer to their Mechanics files to try to locate a good mechanic. http://www.cartalk.com/content/mechx/
You never answered my question about what color the smoke is that comes out the tailpipe when you first start the car in the morning. Were you able to check that?

I see thick white smoke. It's kind of hard to say if it's grey but i want to say it's white or grey and it's thick like rainy clouds. It smells almost like gas (u know how it smells like at a gas pump) but not exactly same... So I m sure sumthing is burning lol.

I totally missed to answer your question. Yes it smokes a ton and no never had the timing belt or oil seals done so far
So Yesterday I got my oil changed, PCV valve is switched along with the grommet. When I gave my car for oil change in SEARS they told me there was no leakage. I also didn't notice any major oil drip on the pavement. They told me that the oil is burning as the smoke continues to come out from behind the car. So what can it be? oil gasket? piston rings or valve guide stems?
I don't even know what they are but ppl told me it could be that. I don't know if they knew what they were talking about.... any suggestions?
