Your car is new enough to probably have a post cat oxygen sensor, it will throw a code at best.

It's a bad idea and illegal to sell used cat's.

You will screw up your emissions, throw a code and hurt performance. You will also fail state inspections and ultimately end up spending more money.

we have no state inspections, your friends are wrong it's 50 dollars your cat is like 150 new how are you going to get twice as much?

alot of ghetto riders in st.pete and tampa dont have cats on them and you KNOW the fumes that comes from those,

but you just ground the sensor to lower the output and the ecu stays happy.

in all it's not done for the money just a cheap removal of a restriction in the system, but if you can give me the name of that shop that pays 300 i'll meet you there.

oh last year the feds ran a HUGE bust out here with shops buying them, people were stealing them left and right in tampa, they even hit a muffler shop taking all they had.

i also dont suggest driving without a cat. but if your cat is bad and needs to be replaced, ive been offered $50 for the old cat as scrap for the precious metals.

Idk i didn't think so either i saw a post on tamparacing 90$ for a cat tho. and wouldn't removing the cat create less back pressure. I am still new to the whole modding car scene i want a new exuasht system so far i have a trd muffler plus tip in mind but whats the point if i have to keep the piping garbage attached to my manifold and cat.

You make no sense how would that hurt performance like if you can specify....

Well, removing the cat will lower your back pressure. It sounds like a good idea in theory, but back pressure is essential.

you cant legally sell a used cat, combine that with the effort to remove it because its likely rusted in place and youll waste your time and your friend will look stupid.

if you have to sell a used cat to help you upgrade your exhaust then maybe you shouldnt bother. but if it were me, seeing how you dont have emissions there in FL id jsut get the parts you want to upgrade together and then when your ready just replace the whole shebang. headers, cat, and catback. however, the cat is one of the more restrictive parts of the exhaust and its your goin for gains it has to go, but unless you upgrade everything(which isnt worth it in most cases) your not gonna see much in the way of power.

I bought a new stainless steel (I think) Magnaflow cat from Amazon for like $81 shipped.

A junkyard wouldn't sell me a used cat and said it's illegal for them to do so. I'd imagine it's the same case for a private party. But who cares about the law anyway? You might be able to get $50 for it. So definitely not worth it especially if your state has inspections.

like is there an aftermarket exhaust that doesn't have the cat already on it or is that illegal. do i have to just mod it pretty much....
