3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
All,
In our quest to see I thought I'd share this. I ran Toshiba HIR bulbs in the 95. These are a near bolt-in minus trimming the tab for the low beams and they way outlast the Silver Stars (junk IMO). These were the 9011 bulbs as I recall.
Anyway one bit it last summer at the 3.5 year mark and the other just recently (I drive with lows on most of the time).
For those of you not wanting to do a headlamp mod or conversion I'd recommend these over anything else. Especially that hideous blue cr@p!
Do a search for HIR. Many links will follow if you want some details.
A recent search indicates just a single source, but supposedly Vipers and Beamers rolled off the lots with these installed so maybe I can get them at dealership? I can't see without them!

The Following User Says Thank You to 73sport For This Useful Post:
FYI: don't be afraid to take the buffer and compound to the lamp covers. It takes pits, grime, and some of yellowing off the covers making them look better. Mine are pitted from daily freeway debris hitting them so anytime the buffers humming I polish them up. Those small pits seem to split the light up so keeping them smooth helps.
Thanks,

Buffer as in buffing wheel and compound as in grit. You can use a buffer and some heavy scratch compound and progress to final finish compound to remove scratches, haze, and other collectables from the head lights cover.
Its easier than "elbow grease!"

John Deere part number fer the low beams is AH211917.
You'll have to check yer local John Deere dealer fer the availability of the bulbs...
Looks like the price is $37.05 each...
If yer gonna polish yer headlights...make sure you seal them with some sort of sealer. I would recommend the Krylon UV-resistant clear coat that you can find at JoAnn fabric and craft shops.

You can order them from finemotoring.com for $28.50 each right now, so no point in buying the John Deere version unless they're cheaper.
Time is money...if you want/need them now and they are available...and you can afford the extra cost (~$18 plus tax vs waiting the extra days plus shipping)...go fer it. I don't think it's a John Deere version...it's just that they carry the same bulb. I don't think there's any special branding that the bulb has. Who knows...you might end up buying some John Deere parts to repair yer Camry!
I think in the beginning...they were selling the same bulb fer $10 each vs the $25 that everyone else was selling them fer. Then everyone found out and John Deere raised the price to offset their inventory going out the door fer non-John Deere owners.

These are only available in the 9006 and 9005 style right? Im going to assume that since a 9003 bulb is used for both high/low that there isnt an HIR bulb in that style for the gen4 Camry?

That's correct...only the 9006/9005 styles.
